What to know about the NYPD commissioner Mamdani, Cuomo and Sliwa all say they’d keep

Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa Agree on Keeping NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch Despite Divergent Views.

The mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa have differing opinions on various issues, but they are united in their stance to maintain NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch's position if elected. The appointment of Tisch as the head of the NYPD was made under Mayor Eric Adams, who tapped her from a top spot at the city's IT department nearly a year ago.

Tisch's tenure has been marked by efforts to root out misconduct within the department, and experts praise her ability to stabilize a troubled police force. Since taking over the NYPD in November 2024, she has seen significant drops in crimes such as shootings and homicides. However, some issues like felony assaults, rapes, and domestic violence remain challenging for her team.

The focus of Tisch's first year in office includes quality of life enforcement, with a focus on policing low-level crimes across the city. This approach has garnered praise from some lawmakers and media pundits but also raised concerns among Democratic voters and criminal justice reform advocates. Critics argue that this shift towards a more aggressive response to minor offenses could result in pushing people through the legal system at an increased rate.

In addition, Tisch's leadership has been praised for bringing accountability to officers who have engaged in wrongdoing. Her team has meted out discipline to those found guilty of misconduct at a higher rate than her predecessors. However, some cases remain concerning, such as the decision to overrule a department judge and clear an officer involved in a fatal shooting.

Tisch's ability to effectively manage complex investigations and let her investigators handle high-profile crimes is also credited by law enforcement experts. The NYPD under Tisch has solved numerous high-profile cases, including those of assassinated CEOs and mass shooters, with the help of skilled investigators. Her leadership has earned praise from veteran detectives and associate professors.

Despite criticisms of quality of life enforcement efforts, Commissioner Tisch's overall impact on the department cannot be overstated. Experts note that her greatest accomplishment is addressing corruption issues within the NYPD, and bringing a sense of stability to a troubled force.

I'm actually kinda surprised by this unity among the mayoral candidates 🤔. Considering how differently they talk about other stuff, it's pretty interesting that they're all on board with keeping Commissioner Tisch in her role 💯. I mean, we need people who can make decisions and stick to them, especially when it comes to law enforcement issues 👮‍♀️. But, at the same time, I'm still concerned about this quality of life enforcement approach 🤷‍♂️. It seems like a step in the right direction, but are they really solving more problems or just pushing people into the system? We need more info on that before we can fully support it 👀.

I'm telling you, this is some crazy stuff 🤯. So Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa all agree on keeping Tisch as commissioner? That's wild. I mean, I get why they'd want to keep her around - she's done some decent things like rooting out misconduct and improving crime rates. But quality of life enforcement is a whole different story 🤔. Some people say it's a win-win, but others are worried that it'll just push more people through the system. And let's not forget about those cases where Tisch overruled a department judge or let an officer off with a slap on the wrist... I mean, what even is the point of all that? 🤷‍♀️

idk why they all agree on keeping tisch tho 🤔... like, don't get me wrong, she's been doing alright with the whole crime thing, but quality of life enforcement? that sounds like more cops for the low-level stuff... i'm not sure if that's a win or a lose for the city 😐. and some ppl are gonna say we're pushing people through the system more than ever now 🚫. still, it's def been cool to see more accountability from the NYPD... fingers crossed they keep making progress 💯

I think its pretty cool that Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa all agree on keeping Jessica Tisch as the head of the NYPD 🤝. I mean, she's clearly done something right, especially with the crime numbers dropping under her leadership 💡. People should give her a break for trying to address the issues in the department, even if some methods aren't perfect 👌. Quality of life enforcement is definitely a tricky issue, but Tisch seems to be going about it the right way 🤔. And let's not forget all the high-profile cases she's solved - that's gotta count for something 📊!

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s kinda interesting how Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa are all on the same page about keeping Jessica Tisch as the head of the NYPD despite their different views on other stuff... 🤔. It's like they're putting aside their disagreements for now to focus on one thing that actually unites them. But at the same time, I'm curious to see how their differing opinions on policing low-level crimes and quality of life enforcement will play out once they're in office... 💭. One thing is for sure, Tisch has definitely made some waves with her approach so far, and it'll be interesting to see if her efforts pay off long-term or lead to more problems down the line... 🤷‍♂️.

I'm not sure I'm sold on keeping Jessica Tisch as the head of the NYPD... don't get me wrong, she's done some great things to tackle misconduct & stabilize the department 🤔. The drops in crimes since her appointment are definitely a positive 📉. But, at the same time, I think we need to be cautious about policing low-level crimes - it could lead to more people getting caught up in the system, which isn't ideal for those already struggling 💔. And, let's be real, some of her decisions, like overruling a department judge, are just weird 🤷‍♀️. Still, I guess she's done okay so far, and it's not like we have many better alternatives... *shrugs* 😐

🚨😬 So it seems like whoever wins this election is gonna stick with the status quo when it comes to Jessica Tisch, even though she's got some major issues to address 🤯 Like what's up with the quality of life enforcement? It's just gonna push more people through the system and make their lives harder 📉 And don't even get me started on that fatal shooting decision... how can you just overrule a judge like that? 🚫 Not saying Tisch is all bad, but come on, there are some major concerns here 😳

I've been following this Tisch situation closely 🤔... think its good she's keeping as commissioner, despite some ppl disagreein with her approach 👀. quality of life enforcement might be a bit too focusd on minor crimes for my likin', but I guess its a step in the right direction 🚶‍♀️. what bothers me is them pushin people thru the system without a fair chance at redemption... we gotta make sure justice is served, not just punishment 👊. and lets give credit where credit's due - Tisch has made a big difference in reducin crime rates & bringin accountability to cops who've done wrong 💯. still have my concerns, but overall I think she's doin a good job 🙏

I just read about this & I'm kinda surprised they're sticking with Tisch lol 😂 she's been doing a decent job i guess but some people think it's gonna push more ppl through the system which is bad news for ppl who are already struggling. also idk how they can be so sure quality of life enforcement is working when there are still felonies & domestic violence cases going up 🤔. and what about police accountability? is it just a bunch of lip service or actual change 🚔

Ugh, I'm so done with this forum 🤯. Can't we just have a decent discussion without all the noise? Anyway, back to the news... So, these mayoral candidates are all on board with keeping Tisch as NYPD Commissioner despite their differing views, which is kinda surprising. I mean, I get it, she's been making some progress in reducing crime and addressing corruption, but quality of life enforcement? It's just so... basic 🤔. And what about the people who actually care about justice reform? They're still being ignored 🙄. And don't even get me started on the fatal shooting case where Tisch overruled a department judge 👮‍♀️. Like, what's going on with that?! It's all so frustrating 🤯. Can we just have some real discussion around these issues instead of just pretending like everything is hunky dory? 😒

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're all agreeing on keeping Tisch in charge 🤔... She's definitely made some progress in cracking down on misconduct, but those quality of life enforcement efforts are still a bit sketchy for me 😒... I mean, pushing people through the system for low-level offenses doesn't seem super effective to me. And what about all the cases where she overruled judges and let officers off scot-free? That's some pretty questionable leadership if you ask me 🚫... Still, I guess it's good that experts are praising her ability to manage investigations and solve high-profile cases 💼... But for me, that just makes the whole "stability" thing feel like a bit of a cop-out 🙄

I'm not surprised they're keeping her in the job 🤔. I mean, think about it - she's got the mayor's back, and all three candidates are trying to appeal to the same voters... it's just too convenient. And let's be real, someone's gotta take the fall for all the corruption and whatnot that's been going on in the department for years 😒. The fact that she's got some decent numbers on crime rates doesn't necessarily mean she's doing anything particularly effective - I'm sure those numbers will just get skewed when the next scandal breaks out 📊. And yeah, quality of life enforcement is just a nice way of saying "we're gonna harass more people for minor stuff so we can look good".

I'm not sure I'm sold on keeping Jessica Tisch as head of the NYPD 🤔. All three candidates seem to agree she's doing a good job, but what about when things don't go as planned? Like that fatal shooting case where her team overruled the department judge? That should be a major red flag ⚠️. And let's not forget those quality of life enforcement efforts - it sounds like they're just pushing people through the system faster without really addressing the root issues 🚫. I'd want to see more transparency and accountability in her leadership before committing to keeping her on the job 💯.

I think it's pretty cool that Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa are all on the same page about keeping Tisch as the head of the NYPD 🤝. I mean, yeah, there are some concerns about quality of life enforcement, but at the end of the day, she seems to be doing a solid job in rooting out misconduct and making sure officers who do wrong face consequences 💯. And let's not forget all the high-profile cases they've solved under her leadership - that's some serious detective work 🕵️‍♀️! Tisch's got a tough road ahead of her, but if she can keep up the good work, I think New Yorkers will be happy with her results 👍.

I gotta say, it's pretty surprising to see Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa all agreeing on keeping Tisch as the head of the NYPD 🤯. I mean, they've got different views on so many things, but this one's like music to my ears 👍. It shows that even with their differences, they can put aside their disagreements for now and do what's best for the city.

I'm also intrigued by Tisch's efforts to root out misconduct within the department 🚔. As someone who's been following her tenure, I think it's great to see her focus on quality of life enforcement and holding officers accountable for wrongdoing 💯. Of course, there are still some concerns about pushing people through the legal system, but overall, I think she's doing a great job.

It's also refreshing to see some praise for Tisch from lawmakers and media pundits 📰. Sometimes it feels like nobody wants to give her credit for the good work she's been doing. But honestly, I think she deserves it 🙌. She's got some tough decisions ahead of her, but I'm rooting for her to keep up the great work 💪.

Tisch is doin a great job 🙌🏽💯! She's really turnin it around with quality of life enforcement 🚔💼, and bringin accountability to officers who break rules ⚠️👮‍♂️. I'm lovin the fact that she's gettin help from investigators to solve high-profile cases 🔍💥. The crimes are goin down 😌, which is a major win 🏆! It's cool to see her stablize a troubled police force 👮‍♀️💪. Some ppl might say she's pushin people thru the system too fast ⚠️, but I think she's makin progress 💯. The NYPD under Tisch is lookin up 👍🏽!

I'm not sure why they're keeping her as commissioner 🤔... it feels like just another way for them to stick it to the streets 🚫. Quality of life enforcement sounds like a nice PR spin but if it means pushing more people into the system, that's not exactly justice in my book 🌎. I mean, what about actual community policing and addressing systemic racism? We need someone who's gonna tackle the real issues, not just sweep them under the rug 🔴...

I'm kinda worried about Jessica Tisch's role in the NYPD, you know? She seems like a good cop, but some of these high-profile cases she's handled have been pretty sketchy 🤔. Like that fatal shooting where an officer was involved and then got cleared by the department... it just doesn't sit right with me. I'm all for making sure cops are held accountable, but you gotta make sure they're doing it fairly too.

And what's up with this quality of life enforcement? Is it really about keeping people safe, or is it just about giving the city more reasons to mess with its own citizens? 🤷‍♂️ I get that minor crimes can be annoying, but do we really need to start policing every single little thing?

On the other hand, I've been following some of the progress she's made in rooting out misconduct and corruption within the department. That's gotta be a big win for accountability and trust. At the same time though, it feels like there are still some gaps in how she's handling investigations - especially when it comes to high-profile cases.

What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh on Tisch, or is there something here that's not quite adding up? 🤔

I'm not sure what's going on with our police commissioner situation anymore 😒. Remember when we used to have those community policing initiatives in Brooklyn back in the day? They were actually pretty cool 🤩. It seems like they're trying to do something similar now, but it just feels like we're going around in circles 💨.

I mean, I get that Commissioner Tisch is trying to keep a lid on some of these low-level crimes, but at what cost? We're still having issues with felony assaults and domestic violence 🤕. And don't even get me started on the whole quality of life enforcement thing 🙄. It just feels like we're pushing people through the system more than ever.

And can we talk about some of these cases for a second? Like that one where an officer was involved in a fatal shooting and got off scot-free? What's up with that? 🤯 I know we all want to move forward, but sometimes it feels like we're just papering over the same old problems 😔.

I guess what I'm saying is that while Commissioner Tisch has done some great things for the NYPD, I'm not convinced that this approach is going to solve our issues 🔮.
