What's in a name? MS NOW – formerly MSNBC – will soon find out

MSNBC is changing its name to MS NOW, effective this Saturday. The new acronym stands for My Source for News, Opinion, and World. This change comes as a result of NBCUniversal's decision to split MSNBC into a separate company called Versant.

The move has been met with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. While some are excited about the name change, others are skeptical about the reasoning behind it. Mika Brzezinski, co-host of Morning Joe, assured viewers that she was happy with the new name, saying "MS Now. I love it." However, not everyone seems to be aware of the name change, and there is some confusion among fans.

The network has invested $20 million in a national advertising campaign to promote the brand and encourage viewers to get used to the new name. The ads feature star hosts Rachel Maddow and Jen Psaki, as well as patriotic imagery and vignettes from US history.

MSNBC's longtime parent company, NBCUniversal, will no longer be associated with a network known for criticism of the Trump administration. Comcast may benefit from this change, as it allows the company to distance itself from a contentious issue.

The split has also led to changes in the way MSNBC gathers news. The network has assembled a large bureau in Washington DC, staffed with veterans of news organizations like the Washington Post. This new operation will allow the network to compete more effectively with other cable news networks.

Some correspondents who had appeared regularly on both NBC News and MSNBC had to pick one long-term home. Steve Kornacki signed a deal to join NBC News, while Jacob Soboroff decided to return to MS, citing that his work for the cable network allowed him to be his "most authentic version" as a journalist.

Overall, the name change is seen as an opportunity for MSNBC to rebrand itself and promote its values of news, opinion, and world. However, some are skeptical about the reasoning behind it, and there is still uncertainty among fans about how this will affect the network's content and approach.

just saw this and gotta say im a bit weirded out by the name change 🤔... ms now sounds like a new morning show or something 😅. dont get me wrong, i love rachel maddow and jen psaki, but its just not the same msNBC we grew up with 🙏. on one hand, i think its cool that they're trying to rebrand and attract new viewers... but at the same time, its hard not to feel like its a bit of a cash grab 💸. i mean, who comes up with a name change strategy? 🤷‍♀️ anyhoo, cant wait to see how this all plays out 👀

Ugh, I'm so over this name change 🙄! Like, who comes up with these things? "My Source for News, Opinion, and World"? Sounds like a total marketing slogan, not a real news network 📰. And don't even get me started on the ads... all patriotic imagery and US history vignettes? So cheesy 😳. I mean, I love Rachel Maddow and Jen Psaki as much as the next person, but can't they just keep the name MSNBC? It's what we know and trust 💡.

And what's up with this whole split from NBCUniversal thing? 🤔 Are they trying to distance themselves from controversy? I get it, Trump was a hot mess, but come on... it's not like MSNBC was ever super partisan anyway 🙄. And now Steve Kornacki is leaving to join NBC News? 😢 I'm gonna miss him on Morning Joe. This whole thing just feels like a big PR stunt to me 📺. Can't we just stick with what works, you know? 👎

idk why ppl r all hyped up 4 dis name change lol MS NOW sounds like a fancy name for a dating app 🤣 anyway i think its just a ploy by NBCUniversal to distance themselves from the Trump drama. didnt really get it tho, if ur gonna make a change, jus make it a change 🤑

also wut's up wit da national ad campaign? $20 million is a lotta cash 😅 and da vids featuring Rach and Jen look like they were made 4 a high school prom 🎉 but i guess its cool dat dey invested in it

i also wonder how dis change will affect da journalism side of things 🤔 wudnt ppl be worried bout losing experienced journalists like Steve Kornacki? idk, might just b a good opportunity 4 new talent tho 🤷‍♀️

OMG u guys! 🤯 So MSNBC is changing its name to MS NOW? Like wut? I'm kinda low-key excited about it tbh 🎉, but also a lil' skeptical? 😏 The new name sounds pretty cool though - My Source for News, Opinion, and World. That's dope 💡! But like, some ppl r wondering if they're just trying to rebrand or something 🤔. And can we talk about the ads? Those are so patriotic 🎉🇺🇸. I love how Rachel Maddow and Jen Psaki are involved tho 👯‍♀️! It's also interesting that NBCUniversal is distancing itself from Trump-related criticism 😂... but like, isn't MSNBC kinda known for that? 🤷‍♂️ Anywayz, it'll be cool to see how this new name affects the network's vibe and content 💖.

I don't know what's more cringeworthy - the new name MS NOW or the fact that they're trying to make us all feel like we're part of some patriotic parade 🤣. Like, can't we just keep it simple and stick with MSNBC? And $20 million on ads to get people used to the new name? That's just a whole lotta cash for a rebrand 💸. I mean, what's next, is they gonna rename Morning Joe to "Morning Joe: The Rebrand" 🤦‍♂️? Mika Brzezinski saying she loves it just makes me roll my eyes 😒. And Steve Kornacki leaving MSNBC for NBC News? That's like a journalist going from the BBC to a Times Square bill 😂. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out 🤔.

omg i dont get why they need to change the name lol its msnbc like its been msnbc for years now 🤔 anyway im kinda down for the new name MS NOW it sounds sleek and modern but idk if its a good idea to distance ourselves from the trump drama like isnt that what we're here for? 😒 still excited for rachel and jen tho theyre my fave hosts 💁‍♀️📰

Umm... so I think MS NOW is a pretty cool name change 🤔? I mean, it sounds modern and fresh... but at the same time, it's kinda weird that they're making such a big deal about changing the name to promote their brand 📺? And what's with all the patriotic imagery in the ads? Is it really necessary to make everything so "America-centric" 🇺🇸?

And I'm actually kinda relieved that the network is distancing itself from Trump criticism 😅. I mean, let's be real, some of those folks can be super toxic online... but at the same time, isn't part of a news network's job to call out politicians when they're being, well, weird? 🤷‍♀️

Oh wait, what was I saying again? 😂

I'm not sure I love the new name MS NOW 🤔... sounds kinda generic to me. Reminds me of those old AOL days when everything was just a bunch of connected dots 💻... anyway, I guess it's a change. Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch Morning Joe and Rachel Maddow is awesome 😎... but some of the ads look super cheesy 🤣. I mean, patriotic imagery? That's just so... 90s 🎉. Can't they just keep the name MSNBC? It was good enough for me all these years 👌.

I'm low-key confused about the name change 🤔... I mean, I get that MS NOW makes more sense in terms of branding, but I think 'My Source for News' feels a bit awkward 😐. And $20 million on ads is no joke 💸! It's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with the shift in focus from criticism towards patriotic imagery 🇺🇸. Can't wait to tune in and see if it really changes the vibe of the network 👀

I'm low-key thinking they're trying to cover up something 🤔. I mean, why change the name now? Is it just a coincidence that Comcast is getting all the benefits from this split? They're basically creating a new entity, Versant, which is like a Trojan horse for NBCUniversal's influence... or maybe even their own agenda 😏. And what about Mika Brzezinski's "I love it" comment? Sounds staged to me 📺. I need more info on this one before I decide if I'm buying into the new name, MS NOW 👀.
