Video shows Port Orange Police officers arresting alleged shoplifter in New Smyrna Beach - WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

In a tense and dramatic confrontation, Port Orange Police officers apprehended an alleged shoplifter in New Smyrna Beach on December 30th. According to eyewitnesses, the officer responded to reports of a man attempting to steal items at a local store. As he rode away on his bicycle, authorities quickly tracked him down.

"You're going to get tackled," the officer said firmly before swiftly catching up to the suspect and tackling him to the ground. The 50-year-old man was taken into custody and faced two counts of felony theft, resisting an officer, and possession of cannabis.

In a shocking twist, video footage revealed that several stolen items were recovered from his pants and backpack, further implicating the suspect in the crime. As he was arrested, the man expressed confusion and distress, asking "Why are you doing this to me?"

The arrest served as a stark reminder of the consequences of shoplifting and the importance of community policing. The officer's swift and decisive action prevented potential harm to others and ensured that justice was served.

With two felony counts against him, the suspect now faces serious repercussions for his actions. It remains to be seen how he will plead or what sentencing he may receive.

🤔 I'm just saying, can we please have a 'Reasons Why You Got Caught' section on these videos? Like, it's super frustrating watching someone get tackled and not knowing why they were taken down so quickly. Was the officer actually that sure they had the guy, or was it just because he was trying to make an example out of him? 🤷‍♂️

Just saw this crazy story about some dude gettin' tackled by a cop in New Smyrna Beach 🤯♂️! I'm all for community policing, but the way that officer jumped on him is straight outta a movie 🎥. I mean, you got a guy tryin' to steal some stuff, and suddenly he's goin down like a sack of potatoes 😴.

I'm wonderin' what was goin on in his head, man... asking "Why are you doin' this to me?" when he just knew better 🤔. And them stolen items he had in his backpack? Talk about a bad life choice 📦💸.

Anyway, glad the officer did his job and prevented any harm from comin' to others 🙏. Now, it's time for the courts to deal with this fella. Hope he gets some serious time for what he did 😒.

man... thinkin bout this shoplifter, gotta feel bad fer him, but at da same time, dont wanna be walkin around stealin stuff, thats just not right 🤔. i mean, da officer acted swift and fair, didnt let anyone get hurt, that's what law enforcement is all about 💪. but, like, maybe there was a better way to catch him? idk... maybe some community outreach or somethin to prevent this kinda thing from happenin in the first place 🤷‍♀️. anywayz, justice served, and now da guy's gotta face da consequences, hope he gets da help he needs to turn his life around 🌱

😬 I don't think it's right when you're doing something wrong and then act all surprised like "Why are you doing this to me?" 🤷‍♂️ Like, dude, you know you broke the law, now deal with it! 😊 The officer did his job and kept everyone safe, so I'm glad they were able to catch him. Two counts of felony theft? That's a pretty serious sentence... hopefully he learns his lesson and gets some help for whatever was going on that led to this 😕

Wow 🤯! Like, I'm just wondering why this guy was carrying all that stuff on his bike in the first place? And what's with the "Why are you doing this to me?" thing? Sounds like he knew he got caught red-handed lol 😂. But seriously, glad no one got hurt and the community policing part is actually pretty cool 👮‍♂️. The officer did their job right, no need for drama 💪.

This thing is wild 🤯. I mean, who tries to steal on a bike? Like, what's next? Riding a unicycle while trying to swindle folks outta their loot? This guy's got some serious nerve, you feel me?

I'm all for keeping the community safe and holding people accountable for their actions. But this whole thing just seemed so... sudden. I mean, did the cops really have to tackle him to the ground? That's a bit extreme, don't you think? A gentle tap on the shoulder or something would've been more effective, right?

Still, I guess when it comes down to it, some people just gotta be held accountable for their actions. This guy's got a lot of explaining to do and some serious time on his hands 🚔💼

🤔 This is insane ! like a movie , not real life . How did this guy even think it was cool to get caught on camera being a total thief ? 🤑 and to make matters worse, he had all that stolen stuff in his pockets ! 😂 the officer's firm words must've really thrown him off guard. i mean, you'd expect someone who's trying to steal stuff to be more alert , not like he was totally oblivious . 💥 justice served is one thing , but I feel bad for the guy too , sounds like a bit of a troubled soul . 🤷‍♂️
