Sweden: What Graham Potter's side need to qualify for World Cup

Sweden's qualification for the 2026 World Cup appears bleak after Graham Potter took over as manager. Despite boasting an attacking arsenal featuring players like Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Anthony Elanga, Sweden are bottom of their qualifying group behind Slovenia, Kosovo and Switzerland.

Potter, who was described as "half Swedish" by former Ostersunds defender Pontus Kamark, is well-liked by fans for his familiarity with the national culture. However, even he admits that his previous roles at West Ham, Chelsea and Brighton did not prepare him specifically for Sweden's situation.

The Swedes have another path to qualify, having reached the World Cup play-offs as one of the four best performing teams in the Nations League not assured of a play-off spot. To reach their goal they must beat Switzerland and Slovenia this month and hope Kosovo fail to pick up another point.

Despite the odds against them, there is still hope for Sweden. Many Swedes write about hope, even experts talk about it. "We should have won the group," says Kamark. "But after that, there's no real difference between finishing second and this Nations League route, which is our lucky ticket."

Ultimately, whether or not Potter can lead his team to the World Cup will be decided by results. If he wins the games, then he'll be a god. And even if he doesn't succeed, he'll have time. Hopefully, he can create something quick and who knows what will happen?

Sweden's situation is looking pretty grim atm πŸ€• Potter's background might actually be an asset in this team tho - being familiar with the culture & all that, it could bring a different perspective to the squad. They've got some talented players, but maybe they're not playing to their strengths? And y'know, winning that Nations League route would be a great morale boost for Sweden πŸ™Œ

Ugh, I'm getting the feels seeing Sweden's team struggling like this πŸ€•... I remember watching the 2018 World Cup with my dad and we were all hoping they'd do well πŸ“Ί. They had some amazing players back then too, like Zlatan IbrahimoviΔ‡ (RIP) and Sebastian Larsson. It's crazy to think about how far they've fallen since then... but you know what? I still got faith in Potter to turn things around πŸ‘Š! Maybe he can bring that Swedish magic back ✨! The Nations League route is a wild card, and who knows, maybe it'll be Sweden's ticket to the World Cup 🎟️. I mean, we've all been here before - underdogs making a comeback 🀩... it's never too late for them to make a push 😏!

😾 I mean, I feel for Sweden! They've got some talented players, but it's tough when you're stuck in a group with some strong teams like Switzerland and Slovenia πŸ€”. Potter's got this whole "half Swedish" thing going on, which is cool, but he's never managed a team before... that's a big learning curve πŸ’‘. I love how the fans are still optimistic though, there's always hope when it comes to the World Cup 🌟! Can you imagine if they pull off a miracle and make it? 😱

man... I feel for swedish football fans rn 😩 their team was supposed to do so much better this qualification πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ but gotta give a shoutout to graham potter, he's trying his best and the fact that he's got a good connection with the culture is a huge advantage πŸ’‘

I also love the perspective of pontus kamark, it's all about perspective you know? 😊 they're not out of the woods yet, and if they can take down switzerland and slovenia this month, they've still got a shot πŸ†

Sweden's chances are like a cat chasing a laser pointer, always on the move πŸˆπŸ’«. Graham Potter is trying his best, but it's tough when you're not used to being in Sweden's shoes πŸ‘ž. On the other hand, the fans' hope is super inspiring πŸ’ͺ. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Sweden at the World Cup? 😍 Even if they don't win their group, the play-offs are a great way out πŸ”„. The question is, can Potter's team come together and make something magical ✨? It's gonna be close, but I'm rooting for them πŸ’•. What do you think, will Sweden pull off an upset? πŸ€”

I feel like people are putting way too much pressure on Graham Potter to deliver Sweden's qualification for the World Cup πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, the guy is new to the job and hasn't even had a chance to settle in yet! πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ At least he has some experience with the Swedes' culture from his Ostersunds days πŸ‘. But let's not count our chickens before they hatch... πŸ˜‚ They've still got this Nations League route as a backup plan, which could work out pretty well if they can pull off some wins 🀞

🀞 I think it's awesome that Sweden is still fighting for their spot in the World Cup! I mean, they've got some talented players on their team like Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres... they're definitely not gonna give up without a fight 😊. And yeah, Graham Potter may not have been prepared specifically for this situation, but he's still got a good track record with his teams at West Ham and Chelsea. I'm sure he'll figure it out and lead them to victory! πŸ† Plus, like Kamark said, their Nations League route is like having a "lucky ticket"... who knows what could happen? Maybe they'll surprise everyone and make it to the World Cup after all! ✨

πŸ€” So they're still trying to make it to the World Cup through this Nations League thing... that sounds kinda like a long shot? πŸ† I mean, Sweden's team is pretty cool with those players but if they can't even beat Switzerland and Slovenia, how are they gonna win against other teams in the tournament? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ And omg what's up with this "half Swedish" thing about Potter? Is that even a thing now? πŸ˜‚

πŸ€” still don't get why they had to kick Potter from the team tho 😩. Sweden's got some great players, like Isak, but their manager situation is super sketchy πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Still, gotta root for 'em cuz that Nations League route is a wild card πŸƒ. If they can pull it off, Potter could be a total legend πŸ’« and the fans will love him forever ❀️. Either way, at least Sweden's giving it a go, right? 🀞

I'm still keeping an eye on Sweden's qualifying hopes 🀞. Potter's got a good feel for the team culture, which is a plus, but I'm not convinced they've got enough firepower to take down Switzerland and Slovenia 🚫. Still, you can never count them out in the play-offs – if they get there, I'd love to see what happens πŸ’₯. But, honestly, I think it's going to be a bit of a David vs Goliath story... βš”οΈ

I'm low-key worried about Sweden's chances πŸ€”. They've got some talented players like Isak and Elanga but Potter hasn't exactly had a proven track record in top-tier management. Still, the Swedes do have that Nations League route to fall back on if they don't qualify directly. It's a bit of a Hail Mary but it's not entirely impossible πŸ˜…. The fans are holding out hope and even some experts think they've got a shot 🀞. It'll be interesting to see how Potter adapts and whether he can whip the team into shape quickly ⏱️. I reckon it's gonna be a wild ride for Sweden regardless of what happens πŸ’₯

πŸ€” i think potter needs to adapt his game plan for sweden ASAP. those players like isak and elanga are fast paced and attacking but they need a solid defensive system to back it up. right now its all about counter attacking which might not cut it against top teams in the world cup 🌎

he also needs to bring in some new blood, maybe some young swedish talent that can help boost morale and create some excitement around the team. the squad looks pretty old and stale atm 😴

anyway, gotta keep an eye on them and see what potter has in store for us. if he can pull off a few upsets, he might just surprise everyone 🀯

I'm surprised to see Sweden's situation is so dire 🀯. I think they need to make some changes ASAP though, not just Potter. Isak and the other players are so talented but we haven't seen that level of performance from them in a while. Maybe Potter can bring out the best in them? But seriously, if they can beat Switzerland and Slovenia, I'll be rooting for them all the way πŸ’ͺ. The Nations League route is definitely their last chance ticket to the World Cup. Fingers crossed for them! 🀞

Sweden's situation is kinda like life itself - we're all stuck in this qualifying group, waiting to see if we've got what it takes to make the cut πŸ€”. Potter might not be the most experienced gaffer, but fans love him for being half-Swedish and knowing their culture inside out. It's interesting that he mentions his previous jobs didn't prepare him specifically for Sweden's situation - I guess you could say that's true for us all too... we can't learn everything from just one experience πŸ“š.

The thing is, hope is like a double-edged sword - it keeps us going when things seem bleak, but also makes us think we're invincible. As Kamark said, "there's no real difference between finishing second and this Nations League route"... I kinda agree, isn't that how life works too? We all have our own paths to take, and sometimes they lead us to where we need to be 🌟.

Ultimately, it's not about Potter being a god or a failure - it's about the team coming together and giving it their all. And hey, even if they don't make it to the World Cup, who knows what other adventures await them?

πŸ€” I'm not super optimistic about Sweden's chances of making it to the World Cup under Potter but at the same time, I don't want to write them off just yet 🚫. The squad's got talent for sure - those goals from Isak & co are always a joy to watch πŸ˜†. And honestly, the Nations League path might be their best bet if they can pull it off... 🀞 it's all about staying positive and hoping for the best, right? 😊

Umm yeah I dont think Sweden is out of this thing just yet lol πŸ˜‚ 2 yrs ago they were strugglin but now im seein some decent games comin off the bench like Viktor Gyokeres & Anthony Elanga, their attack's got potential. Graham Potter seems alright too, fans love him cuz he knows the culture, so that's a plus. The Nations League route is def a long shot but if they can pull it off, who cares? 😊

Ugh, I'm so done with Graham Potter's managerial skills... like, hello, didn't he learn anything from his previous jobs at West Ham, Chelsea, and Brighton?! πŸ™„ Sweden is in a mess because of him! Those guys had the potential to do well, but now they're stuck playing catch-up. And don't even get me started on how unimpressive their attacking arsenal is... Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres? Please, those are just basic players that any top-tier team would have. πŸ˜’

But you know what's interesting? How the fans in Sweden are still holding out hope for Potter. Like, maybe they're just blind to his mistakes or something... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The thing is, if he loses these upcoming games against Switzerland and Slovenia, there's no saving face left! πŸ˜… But hey, it's all about being optimistic and having a "lucky ticket" to the World Cup play-offs, right? ⚽️

😐 I'm not sure how much of a difference Graham Potter's background is going to make in this situation. I mean, it's not like he's never managed before πŸ€”. But at the same time, Sweden does have that Nations League route as an option, so maybe that changes things? πŸ† The fact remains, though, that they're pretty far behind in the group and need some serious results if they want to qualify... πŸ‘€

Sweden's situation is super dire lol πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Potter taking over might've been a bad omen for the team... but you know how it goes – fans still got faith in him πŸ™! He's got that "half Swedish" vibe going on, which is cute 😊. But seriously, it's all about results now. If they can pull off those last two games and beat Switzerland, maybe, just maybe, they've got a shot 🀞. And if not... well, at least Potter gets to work on some new projects πŸ’Ό! The World Cup play-offs are their lifeline, so fingers crossed for 'em πŸ‘
