Shri Thanedar to file articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit Congressman Shri Thanedar is taking a bold step by filing articles of impeachment against US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, citing his alleged role in ordering the killing of everyone on board a Venezuelan drug smuggling boat and discussing pending attacks on Yemen in a group chat.

Thanedar argues that Hegseth's actions put American servicemembers and their families at risk, violating the Department of Defense's Law of War Manual. The congressman also claims that Hegseth mishandled classified information, leaking sensitive operations details to a Signal chat.

The articles of impeachment are part of a broader effort by Thanedar to hold Trump administration officials accountable for alleged misconduct. In April, he filed seven articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, including corruption and freedom of speech violations.

Thanedar's move is notable given that Democratic Party leadership has discouraged similar efforts in the past. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dismissed the possibility of impeaching Hegseth, stating that Republicans would never allow such a process to happen and that Hegseth should resign instead.

However, Thanedar remains undeterred, arguing that Hegseth's actions are "impeachable misconduct" and that the president is above the law. The congressman has long been critical of Trump administration policies, including the handling of classified information and the use of military force in Yemen.

The fate of Thanedar's articles of impeachment remains uncertain, but his actions highlight the ongoing tensions between Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill over the use of executive power and accountability for alleged misconduct.

I'm kinda surprised that Thanedar is taking this bold step... I mean, we've seen some wild stuff in Congress before, but impeaching a Secretary of Defense? That's like, next level 🀯. At the same time, I can see why he'd do it - Hegseth's actions seem pretty reckless and potentially illegal. If true, leaking classified info is a big no-no, and putting American lives at risk? That's just not okay πŸ˜’. I'm curious to see how this plays out, though - will the House Minority Leader come around, or will Thanedar really follow through on his threat? And what does this mean for the bigger picture of accountability in DC? πŸ€”

OMG u guys this is insane 🀯 I cant believe Shri Thanedar is actually going through with filing articles of impeachment against Pete Hegseth πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Like what even is happening? How does someone just order people to die in a group chat and then expect to be taken seriously? πŸ™„ And to think he's part of the Democratic party leadership, I'm literally shook 😲 The fact that they're not taking action against him sooner is just wild 🀯 And Hakeem Jeffries dissing it on live TV was lowkey hilarious 🀣 But for real though, this whole thing reeks of a huge power struggle between Democrats and Republicans. Who's got the upper hand now? πŸ€‘ It's like they're playing some kinda game of "who can make everyone else look bad" 🎲 Anyway, I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one πŸ‘€

I'm so down for this, think Hegseth is super guilty lol πŸ€£πŸ‘€, I mean who orders mass killings and then tries to brush it off by saying they were just discussing ops with guys in a chat? πŸ€₯ It's like, come on Pete! Thanedar has every right to call him out on this, Trump admin officials have been shady for ages. I'm curious to see how the Democrats and Republicans go about this, can't say I agree with Jeffries' approach tho πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ, more transparency needed in DC imo πŸ’¬

omg what a crazy move by Shri Thanedar 🀯!! i gotta respect his conviction, even if it is super unpopular right now. i mean, who doesn't want to hold people in power accountable for their actions? πŸ™ its not like we dont have enough examples of ppl making reckless decisions that put lives at risk... this whole thing is just a reminder that we need more transparency and accountability, ya know? πŸ’‘ even if Hegseth denies all the allegations (which i hope he does), it still shows that Thanedar isnt afraid to speak up for what hes right about. lets keep an eye on this one πŸ€”

I'm low-key shook by this whole thing 🀯! I mean, if a Congressman is willing to take on one of the top officials in the Pentagon, that's gotta say something about the state of politics right now πŸ™„. Thanedar seems like a total boss for standing up against Hegseth, even if it means going against party lines πŸ‘Š. But at the same time, I'm worried that this is gonna get messy and hurt innocent people πŸ€•. We need more transparency and accountability in our government, but we also gotta make sure we're not sacrificing anyone's well-being for the sake of politics πŸ’”. Fingers crossed Thanedar can get some answers and justice for everyone involved 😊

🀯 Just looked at the stats on impeachments in US history: 63% of impeachments have been resolved before a trial, with an average of 2 years to clear all charges πŸ•°οΈ Meanwhile, Hegseth's approval ratings are low - only 24% of Americans support his handling of classified info πŸ’” Thanedar's articles of impeachment would require a supermajority vote in the Senate for conviction, which is 67 votes out of 100 πŸ“Š Did you know that 42% of Americans think Trump would be impeached again? 🀯 Considering Hegseth's alleged actions, might it be time to hold him accountable? πŸ’₯

this is getting crazy what's going on with this dude thaneder he's either a total hero or a complete lunatic i mean filing impeachment against pete hegseth over some signal chat leaks ? it sounds like some serious Hollywood drama but at the same time i get why he'd wanna hold people in power accountable for their actions especially when it comes to national security stuff 🀯🚫

πŸ€” I think this is getting outta hand already! If we're gonna start impeaching SecDef Hegseth over some chat messups, where's the line drawn? 🚫 How many times can one person get away with alleged war crimes before they get held accountable? This is just another example of partisan politics run amok πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Thanedar's got a point about national security risks, but do we really wanna be the ones to set a precedent for executive branch accountability? 😬 I'm all for transparency and oversight, but this seems like an overreach 🚫...and a whole lotta drama πŸ’₯

I'm not surprised by this news, to be honest πŸ€”. It seems like Congress is getting more and more polarized, especially when it comes to holding people in power accountable for their actions πŸ’ͺ. I mean, who hasn't seen some shady stuff go down in the military or government? But at the same time, you've got to question someone's judgment if they're ordering a hit on a boat full of people and then having a group chat about it 🀯. It's just common sense, right?

It's interesting that Hakeem Jeffries is trying to shut down any potential impeachment efforts against Hegseth. That just seems like a way to cover their tracks, if you ask me πŸ‘€. But hey, Thanedar's not backing down, and I can respect that about him πŸ’―. It'll be fascinating to see how this all plays out in the end πŸŽ₯. Will he actually get his articles of impeachment passed? Only time will tell ⏰.

Impeachment is like holding someone accountable when they break a trust – it's not always an easy process πŸ€”. Thanedar's got guts for doing this, but he's also got to think about the consequences. Will his move bring more transparency or create more divisions? It's a slippery slope, and we need to consider what accountability really means. Is it just about punishing someone or is it about ensuring that power is used responsibly? πŸ’‘

this is a bold move by Thanedar πŸ€”, i gotta say i'm not surprised tho, he's been a thorn in the side of the trump admin for ages... i mean, who doesn't want to hold people in power accountable for their actions? but seriously, if Hegseth really did order the killing of those ppl on that boat and discuss sensitive info like that in a group chat... that's some serious red flag territory 🚨. thaneder's gotta do his job tho, can't just let ppl above the law get away with this stuff... the question is, will the dems back him up or try to shut him down? either way, it's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out...

oh my gosh this is crazy 🀯 i mean i know we need accountability and all but this is like a whole new level lol what if he actually succeeds in impeaching him tho?? it would be huge πŸ’₯ like seriously can you even imagine how big the headlines would be?πŸ˜‚ and i love that Thanedar isn't backing down despite what others are saying about him, he's like totally standing up for what he believes in and fighting for truth πŸ‘Š
