Russell Tovey on pride, sexual power and politics: 'The Green party slogan – make hope normal again – is what we need'

Russell Tovey is a British actor and activist who has been open about his experiences as a gay man growing up in the 1980s, during the era of section 28 and the AIDS crisis. He came out at 18 and has spoken candidly about the struggles he faced as a young adult. Despite this, Tovey has found success in his acting career, with notable roles in shows such as "The History Boys" and "Looking".

Tovey is currently married to Honeysuckle Weeks, but they are separating. He has also been involved in various charity work and activism, including supporting the Green party.

In an interview, Tovey discussed the rise of transphobia and its impact on the LGBTQ+ community. He expressed concern about the threat of Reform and said that he hopes to see a more hopeful and inclusive future for all communities.

Tovey is also open about his love of geek culture and has revealed that he was a massive nerd as a child, with a passion for rocks, minerals, fossils, and collecting art. He has spoken about how coming out as a gay man helped him discover a new sense of purpose and confidence in himself.

Overall, Russell Tovey is known for his wit, humor, and enthusiasm, as well as his commitment to using his platform to promote acceptance and inclusivity.

omg i just had the craziest dream last night lol i was standing on a beach at sunset and there were literally a million seagulls flying around me 🦅🌊 and then suddenly they all started playing the guitar like they were in a folk band idk why it was so vivid but it totally freaked me out 😂 did u know that seagulls are actually really smart birds they can solve puzzles and stuff? anyway back to russell tovey i'm glad he's using his platform to speak out against transphobia, we need more people like him 🙌

I'm so done with people thinking that coming out has to be this super dramatic or scary experience. I mean, Russell Tovey's story is literally the definition of a success story - he comes out at 18 and still manages to slay in his acting career 🤩. And let's talk about how much passion and energy he puts into his activism, it's truly inspiring! But what really gets me is when people say that being part of geek culture is "weird" or "uncool". Newsflash: being passionate about something doesn't make you weird, it makes you interesting 😎. I'm so here for Russell Tovey and his love of all things nerdy - who else is with me? 🤗

I'm so sad to hear about Russell Tovey's separation 🤕. As someone who's been there with their own share of ups and downs in life, I can only imagine how tough this must be for him right now. But what really gets me is his passion and commitment to using his platform for good 💖. He's a shining example of how we can turn our struggles into opportunities to make a difference. And let's not forget, he's been open about his journey as a gay man in the 80s - it takes so much courage to share that kind of story 🙏. As someone who's lived through their fair share of challenges, I think Russell Tovey is proof that we can find purpose and confidence in ourselves even when things get tough 💪.

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s so cool that Russell Tovey has been able to turn his personal struggles into something positive like he did when he came out 🌈💖. He's always been a bit of an outsider because of his geeky side too, which is awesome – rock collecting and fossils? who knew! 😂 I feel like we could all learn from him about embracing our true selves and using that energy to make the world a better place 💪. And I love how he's using his platform to speak out against transphobia 🤝, it's so important for us to support each other and be allies in this crazy thing called life 😊.

I'm not sure I buy all the hype around this guy's transition from nerd to LGBTQ+ icon... 🤔 I mean, don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice bloke and all, but I think we're trying too hard to make celebrities out of people who are just trying to live their lives. And what's with all the charity work and activism? Is that really making a difference or is it just a PR stunt? 🤑

just saw this news about russell tovey being open about the rise of transphobia 🤕 its really sad that we still have so much hate and intolerance in our society... i mean idk what the solution is but it feels like we need more people speaking out against it, using their platforms to promote love and acceptance ❤️ hope tovey's words inspire change tho

The way he's talking about the transphobia issue reminds me of the whole 'LGBTQ+ rights' debate during the Obama era... you know when they were pushing for Don't Ask, Don't Tell to be repealed? It's like, progress is being made but we still got a long way to go. And now with the Green party he's involved with, I'm thinking about how left-leaning politics often clash with the right's 'personal freedom' stance... can't say I blame him for using his platform though, gotta keep pushing for that more hopeful future 🌈👥

I feel like Russell Tovey was born in the wrong decade lol 🙃 He's been through so much already, coming out at 18 during such a difficult time 🤕 and now he's already separated 😔 but I love that he's still using his platform to speak out about transphobia and support for all communities 💖 it's awesome that he's being vocal about the importance of hope and inclusivity in our society 🌈 and can we talk about how cool is that he's a nerd at heart? collecting rocks and minerals as a kid 🎨💎 I wish more people were like Russell, using their fame to spread positivity and acceptance 🙏

Feels like we're still not there yet 🤕, you know? People are really worried about transphobia and it's heartbreaking 💔. But at the same time, I'm inspired by Russell Tovey's passion and dedication to making a difference 🌟. He's been through so much and still manages to spread love and acceptance wherever he goes ❤️. It's not always easy, but if we can learn from people like him, maybe we can create a better world for everyone 🌎.

awww poor russell!!! 😔 he's going thru so much rn 🤯 separation after all those years with honeysuckle, i hope they can coexist tho 👫👭 meanwhile, his passion 4 geek culture & activism is everything 💖 i mean who wouldn't wanna see more hopeful & inclusive future for everyone? 🌈❤️ russia needs to chill out with this transphobia thing 🙅‍♂️ and btw, russell's story is so inspiring! 🤩 coming out as a gay man must've been super tough 4 him, but he came out on top 💪

🤔 just read about russell tovey's interview and i'm really saddened that the state of transphobia still affects so many ppl 🌈 u can tell he's genuinely worried and wants to make a difference 💖 its crazy how far we've come but still got alot of work to do 🚀 love that hes passionate about geek culture tho 🤓 who doesnt love collecting rocks and minerals lol? 🌎 btw, hows his marriage situation after the split? hope he finds happiness again 🙏

omg u guys I just got back from the most amazing book club meeting 💖 we were discussing this article about Russell Tovey & I am literally dying over how much of a nerd he was as a kid lol like who collects fossils? 🦖 i'm lowkey jealous my childhood self would've totally been into that... anyway what really gets me is how he's been open about the struggles he faced coming out but now he's all about spreading love & acceptance it's truly inspiring 💕 I wish more ppl could be like him when it comes to using their platform for good 🌈

I feel so bad for Russell 😔 he's been through some tough times but still managed to come out on top 💪🏽! His story is so inspiring 🌟 I love that he's using his platform to speak out against transphobia 🚫💁‍♀️ and promote acceptance and inclusivity 🌈👍. It's amazing how coming out as gay helped him discover a new sense of purpose and confidence in himself 🤝! He's such an awesome role model 💕, and I'm so glad he's still doing his thing 😊💖

omg i just saw that russell tovey was on the news 📰 about his separation from honeysuckle weeks :( but like what really got me is how he spoke about transphobia and the impact it has on the lgbtq+ community 🤕 it's so sad that people are still being judged and discriminated against because of who they are... or who they think they are 😔 anyway, i feel like russell tovey is one of those guys who's really passionate about his causes and it's awesome to see him using his platform for good 💖 by the way, has anyone seen that new rock documentary on netflix? 🤔 i've been meaning to watch it with my friends this weekend 👫

Ugh, the 80s were so rough 🤕! I mean, can you even imagine having to live through all that? Section 28 was just... wow 😱. It's crazy how far we've come since then, but still, it's heartbreaking to think about all the people who didn't get the support they needed back then 💔.

And poor Russell Tovey, having to deal with transphobia and all that 🤯. As someone who loves geek culture (I mean, have you seen his fossil collection? 🦖), I'm all for inclusivity and acceptance! It's about time we start embracing our weirdness and loving each other for who we are ❤️.

But anyway, separation sucks 😔. Guess it's not all sunshine and rainbows even for the amazing Russell Tovey 💫. Still, he's got his activism and charity work to keep him busy 🌟. And hey, at least he's being open about his struggles – that takes a lot of courage! 💪

awww poor russell 😔 tovey's been through so much, but he's still shining bright! I love how he's used his voice to speak out against transphobia & is supporting the green party 🌿💚 it's amazing how being true to himself helped him find purpose & confidence as a gay man. and can we talk about how cute is he with honeysuckle weeks? 😊 anyway, here's to russell tovey being an inspiration to so many people, especially in the lgbtq+ community 💖

omg like tovey's story is so inspiring!!! 🤩 he went thru so much cuz of the time period but he came out stronger than ever & now he's all about spreading love & acceptance 🌈💖 i love how he spoke up about transphobia tho, it's a super big deal rn 🙏 also btw have u seen his geeky side lol? rocks, minerals, fossils... that dude is like the ultimate nerd 😂🔍 anyway, more power to him for using his platform 4 good! 💪

🤔 just thinking about russell tovey's story makes me want to give a massive shoutout to the LGBTQ+ community for fighting so hard for acceptance! 🌈 especially with all the transphobia going around, it's amazing that he's using his platform to raise awareness and hope for a better future. 💖 i also love how he's not afraid to be himself, even when it comes to geek culture - rock on, dude! 🤓
