Rivian's Electric Bike Spinoff Reveals Affordable but Compromised Option
In a bid to make its electric bike entry point more accessible to the masses, Rivian's spinoff brand "Also" has announced that its first e-bike, dubbed the TM-B, will start at a relatively affordable $3,500. While this price tag is significantly lower than the $4,500 starting price of its high-end Launch and Performance models, it comes with several notable compromises.
The base model TM-B boasts a modest range of 60 miles on a single charge, a weaker 5x power assist, coil fork suspension, and limited ride mode options. In contrast, the more expensive Launch and Performance models offer up to a 100-mile range, a 10x power assist, air fork suspension, and the choice between sport and standard ride modes.
Despite these compromises, the TM-B still offers a premium look with its all-gray color scheme, albeit without the transparent shell that highlights the virtual drivetrain called DreamRide. The base model is now available for preorder with a $50 refundable deposit, and shipping is slated to begin in late 2026.
While the starting price of the TM-B is certainly more appealing than initially thought, it's essential to weigh these gains against the trade-offs made by this more affordable option.
