Potential record warm days before strong thunderstorms hit Houston next week

Houstonians Bracing for Record Warmth Before Severe Thunderstorms

A scorching spell is about to hit Houston as a powerful Pacific storm system brings not only record-warm temperatures but also the threat of severe thunderstorms, according to meteorologists.

Temperatures will skyrocket into the mid-80s on Monday and Wednesday, potentially breaking records in the city. Overnight lows will dip into the low-mid 60s, feeling muggy with a chance of fog along the Brazos River Valley. However, any fog is expected to clear up quickly as another sunny day unfolds.

A significant shift in weather patterns is set to occur on Sunday, marking the beginning of a record-warm stretch that will last through Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns of an increased risk of streamer showers rolling in from the Gulf, bringing a 10-20% chance of rain.

While severe weather cannot be ruled out with complete certainty, experts caution that the warm and humid air may lead to an elevated threat level. After the storms pass, temperatures are expected to cool down into the 50s and 70s, although it will not return to normalcy by any means.

As for tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin, there are currently no indications of development over the next seven days. However, viewers can check the ABC13 website for an in-depth update on what's happening in the tropics.

Residents advised to monitor radar maps from ABC13 for the latest forecast updates and to share their own weather tips, photos, and videos using the provided form.

omg, like, i'm literally so excited but also super nervous about this heatwave lol. i mean, 80s in houston is crazy hot! and then these storms roll in... i hope everything's okay. my grandma lives in brazos valley, she'll probably be all messed up with the fog. can't wait to see those radar maps tho, gonna keep an eye on it 👀💨

This record warmth is crazy 😅. I remember winters here being way chill, now it's like someone turned up the heat 🔥. But at the same time, I'm not too worried about it... we've had worse storms before ⛈️. My main concern is all the energy going into dealing with this heat wave vs the actual hurricane threat 🤔.

I'm so done with these crazy Texas weather swings 🤯! One day it's blistering hot, the next day it's supposed to be super stormy? Like what even is the plan here?! I'm not complaining or anything (although my AC bill might be about to sky-rocket 😅), but come on nature, can't you just make up your mind already?! And don't even get me started on the fog 🌫️... like, yeah no thanks, I'll take a sunny day over some mysterious morning mists any day! Anyway, I guess I should be grateful for the sunshine, so here's to hoping those storms bring some much-needed relief from this heatwave ☀️🌞

🌡️ ugh, another heat wave 🤯... like we really need more of that 💁‍♀️ in texas already. anyway, hope everyone's prepared with ACs & sunscreen. those 80s temps might be crazy 😅 but at least it'll pass soon. gotta stay hydrated tho ☀️

omg u guys this heat wave is gonna be insane!!! i'm like 99% sure we're gonna break records on monday & wednesday lol i mean who needs that kind of sunshine & humidity?! 🌞😓 anyway dont freak out just yet coz it looks like the storms might clear up by thursday so fingers crossed! btw can someone pls remind me to grab some aloe vera gel before the heat sets in? 💦😂

Man I'm so done with these crazy weather swings... first it's sweltering heat then boom severe thunderstorms are gonna come knocking 🤯. I don't even know what to expect anymore. A record warm spell is coming which is just a nice way of saying things are about to get brutal. And you're right, after the storms pass, temps won't be back to normal anytime soon. It's like, can we just have some consistency for once? 🙄 But I guess that's just not in the cards for Houston right now.

I'm low-key freaking out about this record warmth thing... I mean, mid-80s in Houston? That's crazy talk! 🤯 And don't even get me started on the severe thunderstorms, like, what if it gets really bad? I've lived here my whole life and I've never seen anything like this. Are we gonna have to break out the shorts and sunglasses in December or something? 😂 Anyway, hope everyone stays safe and prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way. I'll be over here checking the radar maps obsessively... 📺

Ugh I cant even right now thinking about this heatwave its like Houston is just begging to get torched by some crazy storm system I mean mid 80s on monday thats not a record that means something its gonna be a real scorcher and then theyre gonna hit us with these severe thunderstorms idk how much more of this we can take last year was bad enough but this sounds like it could be even worse what if the radar shows something thats supposed to drop some rain but its just all clear out and we still get stuck with this crazy heat I swear I hate waiting for that storm system to pass over

I'm a bit apprehensive about this heatwave hitting Houston - record warmth is never pleasant, especially with humidity levels that feel muggy 🌡️. The unpredictability of severe thunderstorms added to it only makes me want to stay indoors with the AC blasting and a cold drink in hand ☕️. I do hope the weather forecasters are correct about this heatwave being short-lived, but even a brief period of extreme temperatures can have adverse effects on the city's infrastructure and residents' health 🤒. It's always better to be prepared and stay informed, which is why I'll definitely be keeping an eye on radar maps from ABC13 👀.

yooo just thinking about houston heat is like waaat 😩 record warm temps are comin and i'm over here thinkin bout grabbin my shades 24/7 🕶️ can't wait for those sunny days tho ☀️ but let's keep an eye on them storms, don't wanna be stuck indoors all week 😬 hope everyone's prepared with the radar maps, stay safe houston 💪
