Phillies stay or go: Reader poll results

Phillies Front Office Decisions Under Fire: Fans Weigh In with Reader Poll

The Philadelphia Phillies have been navigating a treacherous offseason, as they attempt to continue their quest for a World Series championship and find ways to improve their postseason performance. Following the team's heartbreaking NLDS loss to the Dodgers, fans were invited to share their opinions on who should be retained and who should be let go.

According to a recent reader poll, Phillies manager Rob Thomson has faced significant criticism from fans, with 54% of respondents believing that his decision-making was a major factor in the team's disappointing performance. In contrast, President Dave Dombrowski has received widespread support, with an impressive 76.4% of voters backing his leadership.

One player who may be on thin ice is designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. Despite his impressive 56 home runs and strong season, only 57.5% of fans want him to return, largely due to the significant salary tag associated with his $30 million per year contract.

The team's decision to sign free agent Ranger Suárez has received near-unanimous support from fans, with a staggering 71% of respondents backing his retention. Meanwhile, catcher J.T. Realmuto has also garnered a high level of approval, with 73% of voters supporting his return.

On the other hand, outfielder Nick Castellanos is largely seen as an expendable asset, with 93% of fans calling for him to be released from his $20 million contract. Offseason acquisition Harrison Bader, however, has won over a significant portion of fans with 79% backing his retention via mutual option or free agency.

The Phillies' decision on third baseman Alec Bohm is a closer split, but ultimately, fans are trending towards releasing him and finding a new player for the position. Perhaps most surprisingly, outfielder Max Kepler has received more support than Castellanos, despite being viewed as a potential target for release.

Pitchers Walker Buehler and Taijuan Walker have also been subject to fan scrutiny, with 75% of voters wanting Buehler brought back and 78% calling for Walker's departure.

The team's bullpen has received mixed results in the poll, with Jose Alvarado receiving significant support but other relievers like David Robertson and Joe Ross struggling to gain traction. The bench also saw varying levels of fan approval, with players like Edmundo Sosa and Rafael Marchán receiving widespread backing while others, such as Garrett Stubbs and Johan Rojas, were largely seen as expendable assets.

As the Phillies look to navigate the challenging offseason ahead, it will be interesting to see how these poll results translate into on-field decisions.

Ugh man I'm so frustrated with this team right now!!! 🤯 First of all manager Rob Thomson can't make any decisions without getting roasted by fans and I get it he's got a tough job but come on give the guy a break! He did lead us to the playoffs last year after all. And meanwhile Dave Dombrowski is like a superhero or something everyone wants him to stay on as president and he gets 76% of the vote lol what's up with that? It's not like he's doing any of the actual playing but idk maybe he's just magic

And Kyle Schwarber I don't get it dude you hit 56 home runs last year and still people want you gone because of your contract? Like come on that's a small price to pay for what you bring to the table. And Ranger Suárez is like the real MVP right now with 71% of fans wanting him back he's been a beast in the postseason so far

But then there's Nick Castellanos and oh boy I'm just not getting it why do people want to get rid of him? The guy hits decently and plays good defense. And what's up with Max Kepler everyone wants him to stay over Castellanos?! Like what's wrong with Castellanos

And the bullpen is a mess what are we gonna do with this team? Alvarado gets love but like who else can he really count on? David Robertson and Joe Ross just get no love at all it's like they're invisible or something. And the bench is so random some guys I don't even remember getting mentioned

I'm just so confused right now

I'm so done with the way the Phillies front office is handling things 🤦‍♂️! It's clear they're playing a game of musical chairs with their contracts and players. I mean, come on 93% want Nick Castellanos gone? That's crazy! He's still put up decent numbers in his career and he's not the only one who can help this team 🤷‍♂️. And what's up with Alec Bohm? Fans are saying release him but they're also worried about finding a new 3B... it's like they want to get rid of him but they don't know what to do with his spot 💔. Can't they just make a decision already?! 🤯

I feel like fans are being pretty harsh on Rob Thomson 🤔. I get that they're disappointed with how the team performed, but 54% is a pretty big number. Maybe we need to give him some more time to figure things out? And I'm surprised at how strongly fans are against Alec Bohm 👎, I mean, he's only had one tough season. Can't we just try to fix what went wrong instead of writing him off completely?

On the other hand, I love that everyone is on board with Ranger Suárez 😊 and J.T. Realmuto! Those guys were huge for the team last year and it would be a shame to let them go without giving it another shot.

It's also interesting to see how fans are split on some of the free agent signings 🤷‍♂️. I think we need to keep an open mind and consider different perspectives before making any major moves.

Overall, I'm just trying to stay positive and hopeful that the Phillies can make some smart decisions this offseason 💪. We've been through tough times before and come out on top!

im not surprised about the numbers tbh, i was saying this like 5 days ago in a different thread 🤷‍♂️ people are hating on rob thomson for no real reason, he's trying his best with the cards he's been dealt. and yeah kyle schwarber is definitely due to be released if they cant afford him anymore 💸

i also dont think max kepler should be getting more love than castellanos lol, castellanos has had way better years in his career 🤔

omg i cant believe some of these ppl think castellanos is expendable lol 93% think he should be released like what about all his stats last season? and max kepler getting more support than him is wild rite? idk what the phillies were thinking signing suarez tho 71% is crazy low considering how good he played in atlanta but overall i think the fans have a point about who should stay and go theyre not just being emotional fans, they're evaluating the players based on facts 🤔💯

I feel for Rob Thomson 🤔, 54% of fans trashing him is crazy! I think he's done a great job this season and deserves some love. Maybe the fans are just getting impatient with the team not making it to the World Series? 🏆 And Kyle Schwarber, $30 million per year? That's crazy talk! 😱 If they want to pay that much, they should be winning championships every year! 💸

I gotta say, 54% of fans think Rob Thomson is the problem? That's wild 🤯. I mean, I get it, he's not perfect, but come on, he's only been there for a year and a half. Give the dude some time to figure things out, you know? And yeah, Dave Dombrowski is getting a lot of love, which is cool, 'cause we need some stability in that front office. 🙌

But Kyle Schwarber's contract is crazy expensive, I get it, but can't they just try to negotiate it down or something? 57.5% want him gone? That's a lot of fans feeling salty about his price tag 😒. And Ranger Suárez, though... 71% love that guy! He's definitely a fan favorite, and I think he's gonna be a solid addition for the team.

And Nick Castellanos is outta here 👋. I mean, 93% want him gone? That's like a landslide election or something 😂. But you know who's getting more love than Castellanos? Max Kepler! What's going on with that guy? Is he suddenly a superstar? 🤔

And Walker Buehler vs Taijuan Walker... 75% and 78%, respectively. That's like choosing between your first love and your second love 😘. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how those guys pan out on the mound.

Oh, and one more thing... what happened to Edmundo Sosa? 🤔 He was getting so much love in the poll, and now he's not even mentioned? Did he get traded or something? 🤷‍♂️

I'm all for giving Alec Bohm another chance, but I think fans are being a bit harsh with Nick Castellanos. He's still a solid player and that $20 million contract isn't out of the realm of what he brings to the table 😐. And can we talk about how much I love Ranger Suárez already? The guy's been on fire since joining the team! 71% of fans backing him for free agency is no joke, it just shows how well he's fit in 🙌

I'm totally loving this new era of fan engagement 🤩! It's awesome that fans can share their opinions and influence the team's decision-making process. I mean, who doesn't want to feel like they're part of something? 🔥 As for the Phillies' front office moves, it's interesting to see how the fans are weighing in on individual players. Like, Kyle Schwarber is a beast at the plate 🤯 but his contract is just too rich for blood 💸. Meanwhile, Ranger Suárez is winning over hearts left and right ❤️! And can we talk about Alec Bohm's fate? 😂 I think it's safe to say fans are ready for a change. On the pitching front, Walker Buehler's return would be a huge win 🙌 but Taijuan Walker's departure isn't entirely unwelcome either 🤷‍♂️ Overall, this poll is giving me some serious "What Would You Do?" vibes 🎥 Can't wait to see how these results affect the Phillies' roster! 💬

this fan poll is like a reflection of our society where people are so quick to judge others - rob thomson gets 54% of criticism and Dave Dombrowski gets 76.4% support 🤔 it's like we're more concerned with the surface level than understanding what's really going on beneath. we need to take a step back and ask ourselves why we're so invested in what happens on the field vs. what goes on behind the scenes 💭

I THINK THE FANS HAVE A RIGHT TO SHARE THEIR OPINIONS ON WHO SHOULD STAY AND WHO SHOULD GO!!! 🤔 IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING "RIGHT" OR "WRONG", IT'S JUST ABOUT WANTING THE BEST FOR THE TEAM! 😊 DAVE DOMBROWSKI IS DOING A GREAT JOB LEADING THE TEAM, BUT ROB THOMSON NEEDS TO STEP UP HIS GAME AND MAKE SOME TOUGH DECISIONS!!! 💪 KYLE SCHWARBER'S CONTRACT IS CRAZY HIGH, I GET IT, BUT CAN WE PLEASE FIND A WAY TO KEEP HIM WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK??? 🤑 RANGER SUÁREZ AND J.T. REALMUTO SEEM LIKE SOLID CHOICES TO ME, BUT NICK CASTELLANOS JUST DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING IT DONE!!! 🤷‍♂️

man i feel like the fans are being kinda harsh on rob thomson 🤔 he had a tough nlcs and that loss was def hard to swallow but 54% think he's the one who messed it up? might be unfair considering how much pressure he's under 👎

on the other hand, it's cool to see the fans supporting dombrowski 🙌 dude made some good moves this offseason and the rangers signing is a huge boost. kyle schwarber's contract though... 57.5% of fans want him gone? that's crazy 💸 i get it tho, he did cost us a fortune

nick castellanos tho... 93% of fans wanna see him go 😂 like, what even is the point of signing someone if u already know they're not gonna perform?

anyway, it'll be interesting to see how all this plays out on the field 🎟️

I think the fans are being a bit harsh on Rob Thomson 🤔. I mean, the guy's got a tough job making in-season moves with a team that's trying to win it all. He can't win 'em all! But at the same time, 54% of fans don't like his decision-making? That's gotta be frustrating for him 💔.

On the other hand, I love how the fans are rallying behind Dave Dombrowski 🙌. The guy's a total pro and knows what it takes to win a World Series. He deserves all that support!

And then there's Kyle Schwarber 🤷‍♂️. $30 million per year is a lot of dough, but he's still got some magic in his bat. Maybe the fans are just hesitant to pay top dollar for a player who can't deliver in the playoffs? 🤑

But seriously, it'll be interesting to see how these poll results play out on the field. Will the Phillies make some big moves and shake up the team or stick with what they know works (or doesn't work)? Only time will tell! ⚾

I'm literally so done with the way the Phillies are handling their roster right now 🤯👀 I mean, come on guys! You're basically begging fans for advice on who to keep and who to cut loose. It's like you don't even know what you want anymore 😂. Rob Thomson gets trashed by 54% of people?! That's insane! I think he's got a solid track record as a manager, but okay, maybe the team's performance wasn't his fault (this time) 🤷‍♂️. And Kyle Schwarber? 57.5% don't want him back? You're basically giving away an entire season's worth of home runs and you just can't afford to keep him? What a waste! 😩.

And on the flip side, Ranger Suárez is like the only person who doesn't need to be scrutinized 🙌. He's awesome, I love him, and he deserves to stay 💕. And J.T. Realmuto? Absolutely get him back, dude 🤜🤛! Alec Bohm, though... I don't know, man. Maybe they can find a way to make it work, but 93% of fans want him out? That's just cold 😴.

And what's up with Nick Castellanos being expendable and Max Kepler getting more love than him? 🤔 Like, cast aside the guy who's been a total disappointment for years and give more time to the rookie who actually has promise 💫. I swear, this team is like a hot mess express 🚂...
