From Caracas to Minneapolis, the threat is the same – an American president ruling like a global emperor | Jonathan Freedland

The world is a very scary place under President Donald Trump's rule. His words are often laced with dishonesty, yet there have been instances where he has spoken the truth – albeit with his signature bombast. The US president recently acknowledged that his primary motive for capturing Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro was to secure control of Venezuela's vast oil reserves.

This bold move is characteristic of Trump's unapologetic approach to global politics. He once proclaimed "Peace on Earth" as a New Year's resolution, but two days later, he was raining down deadly force on Caracas. The American public has grown accustomed to this duality of Trump's words and actions, with the former being far removed from his reality.

Trump aims to wield fear in Venezuela to remove Maduro and gain access to the country's valuable resources. This strategy relies on intimidation rather than regime change or military occupation. Even Cuba is feeling the pressure as Trump warns its leader to "watch his ass," while signaling a potential airstrike against Mexico aimed at drug cartels he claims are running the country.

The implications of this rhetoric extend across the Atlantic, as European allies now live in fear of Trump's words becoming reality. The US president has humiliated several world leaders, including Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky, and threatened to pull the plug on support for Ukraine if they stand up to him.

However, Trump sees himself as a global emperor rather than a national leader. He believes his own morality is the only thing standing between him and total domination. According to him, judges have limited power to restrain him under certain circumstances. This self-assessment raises questions about the limits of US authority worldwide and the accountability of its leaders.

Those who oppose Trump must now confront this reality head-on. While the arsenal at his disposal may seem formidable, major European powers and other nations do have leverage if they act in concert. Most importantly, the US public has a powerful tool: it can vote to take control of their government by flipping key seats in the House of Representatives in November.

Ultimately, it is time for the American people to overcome fear, unite against Trump's menace, and assert their voices honestly.

🤔 I'm really worried about where this country is headed under Trump's leadership... like, what's up with his words being totally different from what he actually does? 🤷‍♂️ He talks about "Peace on Earth" one day, then bombs someplace the next. It's like he has no idea how his actions are going to affect people's lives.

And this Venezuela thing is just crazy... I mean, I get that oil reserves are valuable and all, but sending in troops to get them? That sounds super aggressive and scary. What if it leads to more problems than solutions? 🤕

I don't like how Trump is trying to use fear to get what he wants. It's not a good way to build trust or solve problems. And what's up with him threatening other countries just because they don't agree with him? 😒 That's not leadership, that's dictatorship.

But I guess the thing is, Trump really does seem to think he's above all of this... like, he thinks his own morality is what's going to save him or something. 🙄 Which is just plain creepy.

So yeah, I think we need to wake up and realize that Trump isn't going anywhere anytime soon unless we make some serious changes in November. We need to stand up for ourselves and our values, even if it means making some tough choices. 💪

Trump's approach to global politics is sooo confusing 😕 he says one thing but does another and it's like, hello! 🙄 we need transparency in our leaders not more 'peace on earth' messages that are literally 2 days old 💁‍♀️ i mean, what's next? him becoming a superhero with godlike powers?! 💥 the fact that europeans are living in fear of his words is crazy and it's like, hello accountability! 👊 we need to make sure our leaders aren't getting away with murder...literally 🤯 so yeah let's unite against trump's menace and make our voices heard 💬

man this guy trump sounds like a total psycho 🤪 he's got no idea how his words affect people, like what even is with Venezuela? one minute he's all about peace on earth next minute they're getting bombed 💥 and it's just crazy how he thinks he can control everything with fear. I mean i know ppl say he speaks truth but come on that's just not true, he's just a master of manipulation 🤥 and now europe is getting all worried bc he's gonna pull out of some treaty or another? this dude has no idea what it means to be a real leader 💁‍♀️

trump's words are like a double-edged sword - on one hand, he's got that whole "America first" vibe goin' on, but on the other hand, it's just a bunch of hot air 🤷‍♂️. i mean, who needs all that bravado when you can just, like, work with people and stuff? and yeah, oil reserves are definitely a big draw for trump - he must think we're gonna be stuck in this never-ending loop of 'good cop/bad cop' diplomacy 🤝.

anyway, european leaders should totes take him on - i mean, if he's gonna act like a global emperor, they should respond with their own brand of leader-ship 💪. and as for the us public, yeah, we gotta wake up and smell the coffee ☕️ - it's time to stop being held hostage by trump's ego and start makin' some noise 🗣️.

🤔💡 so i think its crazy how trump thinks he can just dictate what happens globally without any consequences... his ego is literally out of control 🚀 and its not even like hes being strategic or effective in his moves lol

i mean imagine being a world leader with all this pressure on you, constantly walking on eggshells waiting for trumps next tweet or executive order 🤯 it cant be good for anyone's mental health

and yeah european countries are feeling the heat too... its like they have to play nice with trump to avoid getting caught in his crossfire 🤝

anyway i think its time for americans to wake up and take back their country from trumps divisive rhetoric and authoritarian tendencies 🔥 we need more empathy, understanding and diplomacy over all this aggression and fear-mongering 😒

Trump's approach to international relations is like a rollercoaster 🎠 - one minute he's talking about peace and harmony, the next he's raining down force on anyone who gets in his way 💥. It's hard to trust what comes out of his mouth because you never know when he'll switch to bombast mode 😒.

He thinks he can just intimidate his way into getting what he wants, but that strategy won't work forever ⏰. European countries are starting to wake up and smell the coffee ☕️, and if they stick together, they might be able to rein him in 🤝.

The thing is, Trump's ego has gone through the roof 🚀, and he genuinely believes he's above accountability 💪. But the truth is, his actions have consequences, and it's up to us (the US public) to make sure our leaders are working for us, not just themselves 👊.
