I feel like we're stuck between a rock and a hard place here


. On one hand, I get why people are saying surgical masks aren't doing enough to keep us safe during this pandemic

. They're basically just stopping big chunks of snot from flying everywhere, but not actually keeping those teeny-tiny airborne pathogens out

. And that's a problem.
On the other hand, switching to respirators is a big deal

. We're talking about changing up our whole protocol and making healthcare workers wear something way more expensive and complicated

. I'm all for safety first, but can we just take it one step at a time? Are we really ready to make such a drastic change without doing even more research?
I think what's missing here is some nuance

. We need to start talking about the gray areas and finding solutions that work for everyone

, not just the health experts

or the politicians

. This isn't a zero-sum game where we have to choose between safety and convenience

. Can't we find a happy medium?
