Chelsea searches for new manager as Premier League breaks record for most sackings in a single season | CNN

Chelsea is on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Graham Potter amidst growing discontent among fans. The club's decision to part ways with the former Brighton boss comes as Premier League sides continue their downward spiral, setting a record for most sackings in a single season.

Potter had been handed the reins just six months ago by the new ownership group led by American businessman Todd Boehly, who promised to usher in an exciting era at the club. The new leadership committed $600 million towards revamping the squad, with Potter tasked with molding the high-profile signings into a winning machine.

However, results have been underwhelming, with Potter securing just 10 league wins out of 28 matches and Chelsea sitting 11th in the Premier League table. Fans had lost faith in Potter's ability to lead the team, and recent performances only exacerbated the situation.

The club's approach under Boehly has been starkly different from its previous regime under Roman Abramovich. While Abramovich expected instant results and relied on big-name signings to deliver success, Boehly promised a more measured approach. However, this strategy seems to have fallen flat, with Potter struggling to get the best out of his squad.

The decision to sack Potter has sparked debate among pundits, with former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher labeling it "ridiculous." Carragher believes that Tuchel's experience and success at Chelsea should have been prioritized over Potter's inexperience.

Despite Potter's departure, Chelsea still has several games left in the league and a Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid on the horizon. Assistant coach Bruno Saltor will take over on an interim basis, but Boehly and his team must now find a long-term replacement capable of instilling order at the club.

The Premier League record for most sackings in a single season has been broken, with 12 manager changes already this campaign. The previous record was set in 2017/18, when ten sides made wholesale changes to their coaching staffs.

omg what's going on at chelsea?? 🤯 they sacked graham potter just six months into the job and now they're on the hunt for a new manager lol what happened? 😂 it looks like todd boehly's plan for an exciting era didn't quite work out. 600 million invested in revamping the squad and not even 10 league wins to show for it 🤑 that's some major mismanagement if you ask me.

i think it's interesting that Boehly took a more measured approach compared to Abramovich but it just didn't pay off 💸. now they're gonna have to find someone who can get chelsea back on track and it's like, what even is the criteria for this new guy? 🤔 should it be someone with lots of experience or maybe a young gun looking to make their mark?

anyway i'm intrigued by all this drama and i'll be keeping an eye on how things play out at the bridge 💼

man, this chelsea thing is getting crazy 🤯... think Boehly's approach might've been too much of a change for the fans... i get what he's trying to do, but it seems like they're taking a step back now 😅... potter's not exactly the most experienced guy, but at least he tried something different... carragher's got a point tho, tuchel was doing alright before he left... think Boehly needs to find someone who can make both the squad and fans happy 🤝... gotta be careful not to overreact, still got some games left this season... wish them luck with finding their next gaffer 👍

omg yooo i cant believe chelsea is sacking potter lol they just threw away that $$600 mil investment on him didnt work out tbh Boehly's approach seems like a fail i mean i get it he wanted to do things differently but did he have to go all in on potter? now its back to square one

Ugh 😩 Chelsea is having a major crisis 🤯! They went from promising change 💥 to complete disaster 🌪️. Boehly's plan was all about slow and steady wins the race 🏃‍♂️, but Potter just couldn't deliver ⚽️. Tuchel would've been a better choice 🤔, IMO 🙃. Now they're scrambling for a new gaffer 📝, which is just gonna make things worse 😬. 12 manager sackings this season? 🤯 that's wild 🌪️! Chelsea needs to get their act together ⚡️ or else 🔥💔

I'm so done with these managerial changes 🤯, can't the owners just stick with one person and hope for the best? Like, what's going on at Chelsea is wild. They went all out to get Potter, spending $600 million, and now they're saying he's not good enough? 🤑 I mean, 10 wins out of 28 matches isn't great, but it's not like they gave him nothing either.

And what's with Todd Boehly's approach, man? He promised a more measured vibe, but it's just ended up being a mess. The fact that Carragher is saying Tuchel would've been a better choice just shows how much of a gamble this whole thing was 🤔. Can't they just be consistent for once?

It's crazy that the Premier League record for most sackings in a season has been broken, though 😱. I mean, it's not like the teams are getting fired left and right or anything (laughs). Nah, but seriously, it's gotta be tough for players and staff when you don't know who your manager is going to be from one week to the next.

I guess only time will tell if Chelsea can get their act together now that Potter's gone 🕰️. Bruno Saltor might have his work cut out for him...

I'm loving how passionate the fans are about Chelsea's new direction 🤩. I think Boehly's approach is all about stability and building a strong foundation for the future. Sure, Potter didn't exactly set the world on fire 😅, but 6 months isn't even close to enough time to turn things around. The squad needs time to gel and settle into the new system.

I'm also kinda with Carragher on this one - Tuchel is a proven winner and should've been considered from the start 🙌. But at the same time, Boehly's got to do what he thinks's best for the club, even if it means making some tough decisions 💼.

It's crazy to think about how many managers have been churned out already this season though...12 is a wild number 🤯! Chelsea's still in with a shout for the title, so let's see how things play out. Will Boehly find someone who can turn it around? Only time will tell ⏰

I dont get why Boehly thinks his fancy $600 million renovation is gonna magically turn Chelsea into a winning machine... its not rocket science, mate! You gotta put decent players on the pitch and give them actual game time, not just throw money at the problem. Potter may not be the best manager out there but geez, he was only given six months to prove himself. And yeah, 10 wins in 28 matches is pretty underwhelming, even for a struggling team like Chelsea.

I'm actually kinda curious to see how Boehly and his new manager manage to fix things now. Like, what's the plan? Are they gonna go all out with big signings or take a more measured approach? And what about the fans, mate? We're stuck in this limbo where we don't know who's in charge anymore... it's all just a bit confusing 🤯
