Burnley 5-1 Millwall: Ashley Barnes scores twice as Scott Parker's Clarets secure emphatic FA Cup third round victory

Burnley's FA Cup campaign has taken a dramatic turn for the better after a 5-1 thrashing of Millwall, sending a clear message that life in the Premier League is not going to be a major concern.

Ashley Barnes' double helped seal the win, as the veteran forward broke his drought with two goals midway through the second half. Barnes was joined by Loum Tchaouna and Jaidon Anthony in putting Burnley three goals clear before Jaydon Banel sealed the rout.

Despite making eight changes to the side that faced Manchester United just a couple of days ago, Parker's Clarets were almost unrecognizable as they took on Millwall at Turf Moor. The result was all the more impressive given that this was their first win in five Premier League games.

Millwall struggled from the start and looked like sleepwalking into defeat until late on when Josh Coburn scored a consolation goal in stoppage time. Parker will be delighted with his team's response, which has now set them up for a possible run in the FA Cup.

Parker hopes that this victory will boost confidence among his players after two recent results that had raised some concerns about their Premier League form. Ashley Barnes was praised by Parker as an inspirational figure who sets a great example and is "a really positive guy."

Millwall manager Alex Neil expressed disappointment at the result but did acknowledge that Burnley were clinical in front of goal, whereas they themselves struggled to create clear chances. Despite this setback, Neil is optimistic about his side's league ambitions.

For Burnley, Parker's team are now through to the fourth round and will be looking forward to their next FA Cup challenge with renewed confidence after this emphatic win against Millwall.

omg, burnleys been on fire lately! they've got that spark in them again, and it's so exciting to see ashley barnes come alive with 2 goals 🤩🔥 can't believe he broke his drought like that too. parker must be loving every minute of this win, especially after those tough premier league results earlier 💪 anyway, this fa cup run could be the real deal for burnley...fingers crossed they keep it up and give em a good show in the next round 🤞

I gotta say, 5-1 thrashing of Millwall? That's a major wake-up call for Burnley. They need to take that energy and momentum into the Premier League games now. Can't keep relying on one or two players to make a difference. Parker needs to get his team gelled up and playing like they did against Millwall. Ashley Barnes is on fire right now, but what about the rest of the squad? 🤔💪

I'm loving Burnley's FA Cup run right now 🙌! They've been through a tough patch in the Premier League but it's clear they're still hungry for success. Ashley Barnes is an absolute legend, his goal drought was a real concern but he broke that with a stunning double 🤩! Parker's got his team playing some great football and I'm excited to see how far they'll go in the competition. 5-1 thrashing of Millwall? That's what I call confidence booster 💪! Burnley's FA Cup run is definitely worth keeping an eye on this season 👀

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s really good to see Burnley getting a much-needed boost in their FA Cup campaign 🙌. They've been struggling in the Premier League lately and needed something like this to shake things up. Ashley Barnes looks like he's back on form too, that double was impressive! 💪

It’s also interesting to see how the team responded to Parker making so many changes, they almost looked like a new team out there 😂. And yeah, Millwall just seemed to be sleepwalking into defeat, can't say I blame them after that Manchester United game 🤷‍♂️.

I don’t think this win will change their Premier League situation right away but it’s definitely given them some momentum and confidence for the FA Cup run ahead 💪. Parker seems like a great gaffer too, his praise of Barnes as an inspirational figure is well deserved 👍

I gotta say, that 5-1 thrashing of Millwall was a massive boost for Burnley's FA Cup hopes 🤩! I mean, to take on an eight-changed side and still come out on top is just incredible 💪. And Barnes' double was the icing on the cake - it's great to see him breaking his drought like that 🎉. The way Parker's team played was so different from their previous games, it's like they finally found some form 🔒. Now, I'm hoping they can keep that momentum going and make a real push in the FA Cup 💥.

I'm loving how Burnley's been turning it around lately! Their 5-1 thrashing of Millwall is a huge statement, you know? They're sending out a message that they're here to stay in the Premier League. Ashley Barnes' double was the highlight for me - I've seen him struggling with form before, but he came back strong like a beast! 🤯 And Parker's tactics definitely played a part in the win, making those 8 changes and getting a new lineup out there seemed like a bold move, but it paid off big time. This is exactly what they needed - a confidence booster that'll carry them through to the next round of the FA Cup. Onwards and upwards for Clarets! ⚽
