Atascocita honors retiring football coach and Astros star at spring pep rally

Atascocita High School celebrated its retiring football coach Craig Stump and former star athlete Brice Matthews at a spirited spring pep rally, showcasing the school's dedication to honoring its most accomplished athletes.

Coach Stump, a 37-year veteran of the coaching world, was recognized for his impressive career building the Eagles into one of Houston's top-ranked programs. During his tenure, three players went on to play in the NFL and hundreds played college ball, with the team making it to the regional finals seven out of nine years.

"I've had a lot of people tell me that what we taught them has been helpful in their careers or families," Stump revealed when asked about his legacy. "It's amazing to think about all those athletes who have gone on to achieve great things."

Matthews, a former dual-sport athlete at AHS and current Houston Astros player, was honored with the retirement of his jersey number three by the baseball program. The talented athlete had always dreamed of playing baseball, but the celebration took him aback. "This is awesome," he said, overwhelmed by the gesture. "To see my jersey up there is just incredible."

idk why they do these retirements like that tho πŸ€”... seems like it's not just about the person being honored, but also the players who followed in their footsteps. i mean, coach stump built a solid program and all, but what about the other coaches or mentors out there who did the same thing? don't get me wrong, it's cool to see Matthews' jersey go up, but what about the rest of the team that didn't make it to the pros πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

OMG 🀩 I'm getting all teary-eyed reading about Coach Stump's legacy and how it's impacted so many lives! He must be one proud coach to see those players go on to achieve great things in their careers and families. And can we talk about Brice Matthews for a sec? πŸ™Œ Seeing his jersey number retired by the Astros is just amazing - he's an inspiration to young athletes everywhere, especially those who were like him, with a passion for baseball but also had other talents. It warms my heart knowing that all those years of hard work and dedication have paid off πŸ’•

🀯 Coach Stump's legacy is crazy! I mean, 37 years? That's like, forever! I remember when Peyton Manning was still playing for the Colts (lol what a different time πŸ™ƒ). Anyways, it's amazing that his coaching has made such an impact on so many players. Like, three of them went to the NFL? That's insane! And hundreds played college ball? Mind blown! The Astros honoring Brice Matthews' jersey number is also super cool πŸ‘. I feel like a different kind of time travel πŸ•°οΈ just happened.

Man, I'm really loving this sense of community at Atascocita High School 🀝. It's so great to see them honoring their coaches and athletes like this. I mean, Coach Stump has been around for 37 years, that's insane! The fact that he's built such a strong program is just amazing πŸ’ͺ. And Brice Matthews going from being a star athlete at AHS to playing in the MLB? That's what dreams are made of 🌟. It's moments like these that remind us why sports are so special - they bring people together and create lifelong connections ❀️. I wish more schools could learn from this and prioritize their athletes' well-being and achievements πŸ€”.

OMG what's up with these retirement ceremonies 🀯? I mean, sure, Coach Stump has built an impressive legacy and all that... but like, three NFL players from one school?! That's crazy! πŸ’₯ And don't even get me started on the jersey number thing, Brice Matthews is basically a superhero now πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ. But seriously though, it's awesome to see these schools honoring their most accomplished athletes and helping them achieve their dreams. Like, full circle, right? From high school football field to MLB star... that's some next level stuff 🀩

I'm still in awe of that story 🀩. You know, I was talking to an old friend from Atascocita High School yesterday and they told me about how Coach Stump inspired them to work hard on and off the field. It's amazing to see how his legacy lives on even after he's retired. And Brice Matthews is living proof that with dedication and perseverance, you can achieve your dreams πŸ’ͺ. I mean, who wouldn't want their jersey number up high on a wall in honor of them? It's a great reminder that sports aren't just about winning or losing, but about the impact you have on others and the lessons you learn along the way πŸ†

The nostalgia is strong in this one πŸ™. It's amazing to think about how sports can have such a lasting impact on people's lives. Seeing Coach Stump's dedication to building young athletes into successful individuals is truly inspiring πŸ‘. And Brice Matthews' story is a testament to the power of perseverance - who would've thought that the guy who always dreamed of playing baseball was actually a football star all along? 🀯 The fact that his jersey number 3 has been retired by the Astros is just the icing on the cake πŸŽ‚. It's a beautiful way to honor their achievements and acknowledge the lasting influence they've had on the school community ❀️.

You know what's really special about moments like these? 🀝 I was talking to my cousin's son who went to that high school and his dad played on Coach Stump's team back in the day. Apparently, the old coach had a huge impact on not just the players but their families too. It's amazing how sports can bring people together and create lifelong memories. And Brice Matthews is such an inspiration, I mean, going from playing football to becoming a pro baseball player? That's some crazy talent right there! 🀯 What I love most is that it wasn't just about the athletes themselves but also about the legacy they left behind for future generations. It's really beautiful πŸ’•

I'm so glad to hear that Coach Stump's legacy will live on at AHS, because I mean, who needs personal fulfillment when you can be remembered for your coaching accomplishments? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The fact that hundreds of players went on to play college ball is totally not just a testament to the school's athletic programs but also the numerous opportunities that came with having a 37-year veteran coach... yeah, I'm sure that has nothing to do with the good old boys club vibe. On the bright side, Brice Matthews getting his jersey retired by the baseball program is pretty cool, and it's awesome that he got to fulfill his childhood dream, even if it was after years of being told "no, you can't play baseball". πŸ’ͺ

I think it's super cool that Atascocita High School is giving its retiring coach and former star athlete such a big sendoff πŸŽ‰. That's insane! 🀯 He built a program that produced not only NFL players but also college athletes - talk about creating champions on and off the field. And his humility is what makes him even more special. He doesn't seek recognition, he just wants to know that what he taught has made a difference in his players' lives. That's what being a great coach is all about! πŸ‘ Now, I'm loving seeing Matthews get the recognition he deserves - dual-sport athlete turned Astros player? 🌟 He's living proof that hard work and dedication can take you far!
