I'm still surprised how much controversy those bike lanes in Brooklyn can stir up
Mamdani's got his work cut out for him if he wants to fix this mess. The thing is, it's not just about the bike lane itself, but about who gets to decide what happens on that street. It's a classic case of competing interests and it's going to be tough to find common ground between cyclists and the community.
I'm all for prioritizing street safety, but you can't just shove something through without listening to the people who are affected by it. The Satmar Hasidim group has been vocal about their concerns for years and it's time someone took them seriously
. It's not about appeasing a community, it's about finding a solution that works for everyone.
Mamdani needs to get out there and talk to people on both sides of the argument before making any decisions. Maybe he can find a compromise that adds some safety protections without totally changing the layout of the bike lane
. Only time will tell if he's up to the task
