A strong low-pressure system is moving into the Bay Area overnight, bringing with it a Level 2 storm that will bring heavy rain and strong winds to the region on Sunday night and Monday.
Residents can expect cloudy skies and cooler temperatures on Saturday, with highs in the 60s. However, it won't be long before showers start rolling in from the south, rotating northward through the East Bay, South Bay, and Peninsula overnight. The heaviest rain is expected to fall over the Santa Cruz Mountains and South Bay, where totals could reach up to an inch or more.
On Sunday, dry conditions will prevail until mid-afternoon, but then heavy rain will sweep in from the North Bay, spreading south and east throughout the day for another Level 2 system that will last through early evening. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue overnight, with estimates suggesting an additional 1-2 inches of rain.
However, relief will come on Monday morning when lighter showers return, but the rain will be back by Wednesday night and Thursday. Meanwhile, dry skies are expected on Tuesday before more clouds roll in once again.
Residents should also be prepared for reduced visibility due to fog, especially overnight. The fog is likely to clear up by mid-morning, but then reappear later in the day.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, expect plenty of cloud cover and cooler temperatures than usual. But with any luck, it won't take long before we see some sunshine breaking through the clouds once again.
