A New Ratchet & Clank Game Hits Mobile, But Not PS5
Insomniac's beloved action platformer series has been relatively quiet in recent years, with its most recent outing being 2016's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Fans had hoped for another installment soon, but it seems we won't have to wait much longer - albeit not on the PlayStation 5.
A new multiplayer game, titled Ranger Rumble, is set to arrive on iOS and Android devices shortly. Developed by mobile developer Oh BiBi, this fast-paced arena shooter retains platforming elements, boasting colorful visuals and a variety of playable characters with unique abilities and arsenal options. The game features multiple modes, including a soccer-style competition.
While it's free-to-play, gamers can expect microtransactions - a common feature in mobile games. Customization is also available for players to personalize their characters.
The Ratchet & Clank series has made its mark on mobile platforms before, with the release of Going Mobile back in 2005 and Before the Nexus eight years later. However, there's a peculiar footnote: an original sequel called Clone Home was slated for Java phones in 2006 but was canceled. Undeterred by this setback, fans discovered a copy of the game on a phone, cracked its encryption, and made it available for download last month. It seems that Insomniac isn't involved with this mobile take, however, which is why we're seeing Ranger Rumble from Oh BiBi instead.
