2 NYPD shootings spur questions about Mayor Mamdani's safety plans

I'm really worried about the lack of clarity on how mental health workers will be deployed in emergency situations 🤕. It seems like we're still trying to figure out how to get the right people at the right time, but I think that's what this proposed department is all about 💡. We need to get beyond just investigating incidents and try to understand what went wrong so we can prevent them from happening in the first place 🤔.

this whole situation feels like a mess 🤯 i feel for the families of the two guys who got shot, poor ppl... mayor mamdani needs to give us more deets on how this department is gonna work, what's the timeline? i get that we need police presence but mental health workers should be there too, you know? it's all about finding a balance 🤝 we can't just sit back and do nothing, but at the same time, we gotta make sure we're not rushing into things 💡

omg u guys i'm literally shook by these recent police shootings in nyc like what even happened in that hospital in brooklyn lol but seriously can we pls just get some decent mental health resources up in here?? 🤯 mayor mamdani's proposal is like the first step towards getting us there but i feel like it's still a bit vague idk if mental health workers would've been deployed in these situations who knows? 💁‍♀️ anyway alex vitale's point about focusing on prevention instead of blaming officers is SO on point like let's work together to create a system where people don't end up getting shot 🤷‍♀️ i just wanna see some progress on this ASAP

🤔 I'm not sure if creating a separate Department of Community Safety is going to solve everything. We need to think bigger 🌎. Mental health issues are complex, but police presence can be a vital part of de-escalating situations too 💪. It's all about balance and finding the right solutions that work for everyone. Maybe we should focus on more community programs and resources first 💕?
