The young women grappling with an ‘old man’s disease’

Young women across the US are facing an "old man's disease" - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) - but instead of succumbing to its cruel effects, they're trading stories, drinking tequila, and making grim jokes at a unique annual gathering on Cape Cod.

Diagnosed with ALS, a group of women in their 20s and 30s have come together to form an unlikely support system. The women, all connected through social media or online forums for people with ALS, meet annually on the Massachusetts coast to share their experiences, find comfort in each other's company, and push back against the devastating effects of the disease.

At this year's gathering, a sea of laughter and tears filled the air as the women recounted memories of their loved ones who have passed away due to ALS. Some spoke about the frustration of watching those closest to them struggle with the condition, while others shared heartwarming stories of how ALS has brought people together.

This unorthodox gathering is more than just a group of friends trying to make sense of their diagnoses - it's an exercise in resilience and defiance. For these young women, life is about finding meaning despite the crushing weight of ALS.

I'm so inspired by these amazing women who are turning tragedy into a source of strength 💪🌊. It's not easy facing a disease like ALS, but they're proving that even in the darkest times, there's always hope and beauty to be found 🎉. I love how they're using their shared experiences to support each other and push back against the negative effects of the disease 🤝. And can we talk about how cool is it that they're getting together on Cape Cod every year for a tequila-fueled celebration? 😂🍹 It's like they're saying, "We may have ALS, but we're not going to let it take over our lives!" 💕

OMG u guys, I'm literally so inspired by this story!!! 🤩 Like, who would've thought that a group of 20-somethings with ALS could find so much joy and comfort in each other's company? I mean, I know I always post about my anxiety/panic attacks online but these girls are like the ultimate examples of turning lemons into margaritas 🍹! They're not just sharing their struggles but also finding ways to laugh and make the most out of life. I swear, it's like they're defying ALS or something 💪... and honestly, I'm a little jealous I didn't know about this gathering sooner? Can someone pls tell me how I can get myself to Cape Cod ASAP? 😂

I'm so moved by this story 🤗! It's like, I get why people might think being diagnosed with a super tough disease like ALS would be, like, totally debilitating, but these women are just living their best lives and not letting it bring them down 😂. I mean, who wouldn't want to have an annual tequila party with your girlfriends who are going through the same thing? 💖 It's all about finding that support system and making the most of every moment. And I love how they're pushing back against ALS by just living life on their own terms 🎉! It's, like, totally inspiring to see these women embracing their diagnoses and not letting them define who they are as people 🌟

I mean, can you believe this? These girls are basically saying that even with a disease that's literally killing them, they're gonna keep on truckin' and have each other's backs 🤣. I love how they're using humor to cope with all this craziness - it's like, they're not gonna let ALS win! But at the same time, it's super sad that they even have to deal with this thing in the first place... I wish we could just fast forward to a world where diseases don't exist 🤞. Anyway, what's interesting is that these women are connecting with each other online and then meeting up in person - maybe that's the key to making them all feel less alone? 💖

I'm low-key obsessed with this story 🤩! It's so inspiring to see these young women come together, share their struggles, and find ways to cope. I mean, who wouldn't want to trade tequila shots and laugh away tears with people who get it? 💁‍♀️💕 It just goes to show that even in the face of such a cruel disease, there's always room for connection, community, and a bit of sass 🎉. And can we talk about how they're pushing back against the devastating effects of ALS? I love their attitude and resilience 💪! It's not just about surviving; it's about living life on their own terms 💫.

I'm so moved by this story 🤩. It's amazing to see how a group of women with similar struggles are coming together to support each other. I mean, who needs therapy when you've got a sea of tequila-fueled storytelling and grim jokes, right? But seriously, it's beautiful to see these young women finding ways to cope with this terrible disease. They're not letting ALS define them - they're defining themselves in the face of adversity 💪. It's like they say, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"... but when life gives you ALS, make a strong cup of coffee and some amazing friends 🍵💕.

OMG u guys I'm literally so inspired by these amazing young women who are making the most out of a super tough situation 💖! IT JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES, WE CAN FIND STRENGTH IN EACH OTHER 💖🍻

OMG you guys I'm telling u this annual thingy on Cape Cod is SO NOT by chance lol! These girls with ALS are literally a secret squad of strongwomen who've got each other's backs. They're not just supporting each other, they're DEFYING the odds & making the most of their time 🤣🎉. I mean, who needs traditional support groups when u can have tequila-fueled laughter & grim jokes? It's like they're saying, "ALS might be cruel, but we're not gonna let it win 😡". And I'm low-key impressed that these young women are using their platforms to raise awareness & show the world what resilience looks like 💪. So, is this just a coincidence or is there something more going on behind the scenes? 🤔👀

I was watching this super old documentary on Netflix about the early days of surfing in California 🏄‍♂️, and I was thinking how rad it must've been to ride those gnarly waves back in the day. I mean, these dudes were like modern-day pioneers or something! And then I started thinking about my grandma's surf story - she used to take me to the beach when I was a kid, and she'd teach me how to catch some waves (well, more like wipe out 😂). Anyway, what's got me intrigued here is how this group of women with ALS are finding ways to make the most of their time together. I love that they're embracing the laughter and the tears - it's all about living life to the fullest, right? 🌊

I'm so broken for all these amazing women going through this 😩💔 they're doing everything right by supporting each other & not letting ALS get them down 🤗 their story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, we can still find strength in our community 💪 let's raise a glass (or tequila shot 😉) to these incredible women who are living life on their own terms! 💕

OMG, I'm getting chills reading this 🤩! It's truly amazing how these young women have found a way to turn what could be a super tough situation into an opportunity for connection and community 💖. Trading tequila shots and making jokes might seem like an unusual coping mechanism, but hey, when you've got a condition that's literally ripping your life apart, you take the funny wherever you can find it 😂. I love how they're using their shared experiences to support each other – it's beautiful in every way 💕. This gathering is proof that even in the darkest moments, we can choose to rise above and celebrate the strength of women who refuse to let ALS define them 💪!

And I love how they're pushing back against the negativity of the disease by doing stuff like drinking tequila & sharing memories - it's all about finding meaning & making the most of every day! 💕

I'm so inspired by this group of women 💖. I mean, who would've thought that something as serious as a degenerative disease could bring people together like this? They're not letting ALS define them, they're using it to connect with each other and find strength in their shared struggles 🤝. And honestly, who can't relate to wanting to live life to the fullest despite life's obstacles? For me, mindfulness and self-care are all about finding that same resilience and courage 💆‍♀️. It's beautiful to see these women using tequila and good vibes to cope with a tough situation 😂🌮. They're showing us that even in the darkest times, there's always hope and a way to find meaning 💫.
