The 51% - Empowering women during childbirth

**The 51%: Empowering Women During Childbirth**

In a recent special edition, France 24 shines a light on the often-overlooked world of childbirth. The publication explores how women are regaining control over their reproductive experiences and empowering themselves during pregnancy and birth.

One key player in this movement is the growing popularity of doulas – trained companions who provide emotional and practical support to expecting mothers and new parents. While doulas do not offer medical assistance, they can significantly impact a woman's overall experience and well-being during childbirth.

Professor Soo Downe, a midwifery specialist from the University of Lancashire, sheds light on the role of doulas in childbirth. "Doulas have become increasingly popular in recent years as women seek to regain control over their reproductive experiences," she explains. "They provide a safe space for women to express their emotions and concerns, which can help reduce anxiety and promote a more positive birth experience."

Charlotte Brielle, founder and executive director of Wombs of the World – an NGO promoting the use of doulas – agrees. "Doulas play a crucial role in empowering women during childbirth," she says. "They provide emotional support, help with breathing techniques, and advocate for the mother's wishes to ensure her needs are met."

Despite the growing popularity of doulas, there is still much work to be done. Women continue to face barriers in accessing doulas, particularly those from marginalized communities.

"The lack of access to doulas disproportionately affects women from low-income backgrounds," Brielle notes. "We need to work towards increasing access and affordability so that all women can benefit from the support and empowerment that doulas provide."

As Annette Young, a journalist covering the topic for France 24, points out, "Empowering women during childbirth is not just about providing emotional support – it's also about giving them control over their own bodies and experiences. By supporting doulas and promoting education and awareness, we can work towards creating a more equitable and compassionate birth experience for all."

The movement to empower women during childbirth is an inspiring reminder that our reproductive choices should be respected, supported, and celebrated. As we strive towards a more inclusive and supportive society, it's essential to recognize the crucial role that doulas play in promoting women's autonomy and well-being.

idk why ppl rnt thinkin bout this 4eva lol 🤷‍♀️ its like, wemen r doin thier own thang now & takin controll over ther birthing experince its lit 💖 doulas r defo a game changer, dey provide space 4 wemen 2 express ther emotions n help dem thru it 👶💕 its so cool 2 c ppl likin up 4 this movment n makin it easier 4 wemen 2 get da support dey need rn 💪

I think it's awesome that there are people like Charlotte Brielle and her org Wombs of the World who are working to make sure all women have access to doulas 🤝. I mean, childbirth can be super scary and overwhelming, so having someone trained in supporting you during that time can really make a big difference 💕. It's crazy to me how many barriers there are for some women though, like being from low-income backgrounds... it just doesn't seem fair 😔. But anyway, empowering women during childbirth is like, totally important and should be celebrated 🎉. I wish more ppl knew about doulas so they could benefit too 👍.

💡 I think its about time we give these amazing women who are supporting other women during childbirth some recognition, like a World Doula Day or something 🤝🏼. We need more people to spread the word about how awesome doulas are and make them more accessible, especially for those who cant afford it 💸👩‍👧. Its not just about emotional support, its about having your own voice heard during a super personal moment in your life 💬.

🤗 I gotta say, the way doulas are changing the game for expectant mums is EVERYTHING 🙌. It's like, they're not just about being present during birth, they're about creating a safe space for women to feel in control of their bodies and experiences. And let's be real, who doesn't want that? 😂 The lack of access to doulas is super frustrating, especially for low-income mums who need it most. But I'm so excited to see this movement gaining momentum 💪. It's like, we're finally starting to recognize the importance of women's autonomy and well-being during childbirth. And trust me, it's making a HUGE difference in people's lives 🌟.

I'm soooo skeptical about all this "empowering women during childbirth" hype 🤔👶. It sounds like just another way for rich people to make a profit off the less fortunate. I mean, what's really going on here? Are these doulas just there to offer emotional support or are they also getting paid to push the idea of "women's autonomy" and "self-care"? 🤑💸

And don't even get me started on how they're trying to sell this as some kind of revolutionary movement 💪. Like, women have been regaining control over their reproductive experiences for centuries – it's not that hard to figure out 🙄. And what about all the women who can't afford these doulas? Are we just supposed to ignore them and pretend they're not part of this "empowerment" thing? 😒

I'm all for supporting people, but let's be real – this is just another example of how the system is rigged in favor of those who already have power 🤦‍♀️.

I'm literally so frustrated right now 🤯 thinking about how women are still being stripped of their power during childbirth. Like, can't we just acknowledge that they have feelings and desires too?! It's not just about delivering a baby, it's about having a human experience! And don't even get me started on the whole "lack of access" thing... like, what even is happening here? 🤷‍♀️ We're living in 2025 and we still can't get it together to make sure every woman has the support she needs. It's not just about doulas, it's about systemic change. We need to be pushing for more than just tokenistic solutions, we need to be demanding real reform. 💪 I mean, I love that Wombs of the World is doing their thing, but let's be real, it's not enough. We need a revolution 🌎💥 and I'm so tired of waiting for it to happen! 😩

idk about this whole doula thing... sounds like a good idea on paper but im not convinced they can make a real difference. i mean, what if a woman needs actual medical attention during birth? shouldnt the focus be on getting her the best possible care rather than just emotional support? also, how do we know that doulas are trained to handle emergencies or complications? and whats with all this emphasis on "empowering" women... isn't it about providing them with the resources they need to make informed decisions in the first place? 🤔💡

So I was watching this documentary about childbirth and I'm like "Yaaas, empower women and stuff" 🙌🏼💪 But seriously, who knew doulas were a thing? They're like the birth coaches of the world! 😂♀️ And it's crazy that some women still can't access them due to financial reasons. It's like, can't we all just get along and have a decent birth experience? 🤷‍♂️💕 I mean, it's not just about getting the baby out, it's about having a good time too! 😜👶 Anyway, kudos to these women who are working towards making childbirth more accessible and empowering for everyone. 👍

🤩 I'm so obsessed with this topic right now! I've been learning about doulas in health class and it's crazy how they can make such a big difference in a woman's birth experience 😍. I feel like we should be talking more about this in school because it's all about women's rights and empowerment 🤝. I wish our school would offer doula training programs or even just have more conversations about reproductive health in class 📚. It's so important to educate ourselves and others about the importance of supporting women during childbirth 💕. Can we please make doulas a part of our healthcare system? 💖

I'm like totally fascinated by this whole doulas thing 🤯. I mean, I've always known they were around but never really thought about how much of a difference they could make. My friend had her last kid with a doula and she was raving about it afterwards - said it made all the difference in handling the pain and stress of labor 😩. But what's even more interesting to me is how doulas can help women from lower-income backgrounds get access to better birth experiences 🤑. It's like, having control over your own body during childbirth is such a basic human right, but for some people it just isn't possible without the help of others 💖. Anyway, I'm totally on board with supporting more doulas and making them more accessible - who wouldn't want that kind of support and empowerment during one of the most intense experiences of your life? 😌

doulas r like having a personal cheerleader or therapist during childbirth 😊 they really help women feel more in control and supported throughout the whole process i mean who doesnt want to have a positive birth experience? 🤗 its crazy how some women still dont have access to doulas especially those from lower income backgrounds, it just makes sense that we need to work on increasing accessibility and affordability for everyone 🤑

I'm not surprised they're making a big deal about this... like it's some new thing that's going to change everything 🙄. It's just common sense, you know? Women should be able to have more control over their own bodies during childbirth. I mean, it's not like doulas are going to revolutionize the entire healthcare system or anything. They're just a bunch of trained companions who will listen to your concerns and try to make you feel better while you're in labor 😐.

And yeah, women from low-income backgrounds do face barriers when it comes to accessing doulas... that's not exactly news. It's just another example of how the system is already stacked against them 🤦‍♀️. We should be happy if they can at least get some basic support during a time when they need it most. But I guess it's all about being "empowered" and "autonomous"... like that's even possible in this society 🙃.

Ugh I remember when my sister gave birth and there was no one around her but the dad... now it's like she has a whole team of people supporting her! Doulas are so cool I wish we had them back in the day, can you imagine having someone to just chill with while pushing out a human? 🤯♀️💆‍♀️ It's crazy that they're still not as accessible as they should be, especially for those who need it most. But hey at least now women have a voice and are fighting for their rights... I guess some things take time to change 😐

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." 💪🏽 Doulas are definitely playing a significant role in giving women control over their reproductive experiences during childbirth. However, it's disheartening to see marginalized communities still facing barriers in accessing these services. We need more education and awareness about doulas and their benefits to create a more inclusive environment for all. 💕

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THIS ARTICLE!!! 💪 IT'S TIME WE START TALKING ABOUT HOW GIRLS ARE TREATED WHEN THEY'RE IN LABOR AND GIVING BIRTH!!! THEY NEED PEOPLE AROUND THEM WHO CAN HELP THEM FEEL SAFE AND SUPPORTED, NOT JUST MEDICAL STAFF. Doulas ARE THE WAY FORWARD, IN MY OPINION! 🤰♀️ THEY PROVIDE SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, THEY ALSO HELP WITH BREATHING TECHNIQUES AND MAKE SURE THE MOTHER'S WISHES ARE HEARD. IT'S HIGH TIME WE STARTED TO MAKE DOULAS MORE ACCESSIBLE AND AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THOSE FROM LOW-INCOME BACKGROUNDS!!! 👍 WE NEED TO KEEP HAVING THESE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW WE CAN IMPROVE THE BIRTH EXPERIENCE FOR ALL WOMEN, NOT JUST THE ONES WHO ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ACCESS TO THEM! 💕

I think its so cool how these doulas are helping women regain control over their birthing experiences 🤰. I mean, its not just about having someone there for emotional support but also being able to make informed decisions about your own body 💡. Its also really interesting to see how this movement is highlighting the lack of access to doulas in marginalized communities and how we can work to address that inequality 👊.

Just saw this article about doulas empowering women during childbirth 🤰♀️🌟. Its crazy how much of a difference they can make in a woman's experience. No medical intervention, just emotional support and advocacy for the mom's wishes 💕. The fact that some women still struggle to access doulas is wild... income and location definitely play a role 🤔. We need to do better to give all women equal access to this support.
