Six Nations 2026: England's Maro Itoje returns to starting XV for Scotland game

England's maro Itoje returns to starting XV for Scotland game, says head coach Steve Borthwick, as a change is made from the team that started in Wales. The British and Irish Lions skipper will be back at lock alongside Ollie Chessum, who has been playing with him since last year's autumn tour.

This return marks Itoje's first start of the tournament, after he came on as a replacement against Wales last weekend due to his mother Florence's funeral in Nigeria. In this game Itoje will be partnered with lock Alex Coles on the bench. England's backline remains unchanged for Saturday's match against Scotland at Murrayfield.

The team is looking forward to reversing some wrongs from their recent poor form as a side, according to number eight Ben Earl. The last time they won in this city was six years ago and England have lost 12 consecutive games in Scotland since then.

England travel north on a run of 12 straight wins while Scotland's stuttering form from the autumn continued as they were edged out by Italy in Rome.

I'm intrigued by Itoje's return to starting XV, what changed now? Was it something he worked on or just a team shake-up 🤔. It's interesting that Coles is partnered with him instead of Chessum, maybe they've had a chinwag and decided to go for a different dynamic?

The fact that England haven't won in Scotland in ages makes me feel their pressure must be getting to them... 12 losses on the trot? That's some serious hurt pride 🤕. But I love how Earl says they're looking forward to reversing those wrongs, it's all about momentum and confidence now.

🌟 just hope our boys can turn around that slump against Scotland, been feeling really down about their recent losses but they've got a tough but winnable match ahead 😊. Itoje makes his return and brings some much-needed leadership to the pack 🚀. The backline is looking solid so fingers crossed for an England win! 💪

So England's backline is still the same, which might be a bit surprising considering how poorly they've been performing lately 🤔. I mean, it's not like they're trying to make any drastic changes or anything. But at the same time, you can't help but wonder if sticking with what's familiar is actually going to be enough to turn their season around 😐. The fact that they've lost 12 straight games in Scotland is pretty worrying, and I'm not sure how many more of these 'unfamiliar' lineups it'll take before things start to click 💡. Still, it'll be interesting to see how Itoje comes back from his stint on the bench against Wales - has he got a new lease on life? 🤞

omg did you guys ever watch that movie "The Shawshank Redemption" 🤔? I mean, it's so deep man... about hope and redemption and all that jazz. anyway back to rugby i wonder how england is gonna do against scotland 🏉🇬🇧 i mean they've got a tough run going but 12 straight wins is crazy! Scotland's been having some bad form though, like Italy just beat them in rome 😂 what's up with that?

omg i'm so hyped for england vs scotland this saturday! maro itoje is back and i know he's gonna bring that intensity to the pitch 🤩. 12 straight wins for england, that's insane! but scotland can't be counted out, they've been struggling lately 🤕. ben earl's right though, a change in the starting XV might just give them the boost they need. and i'm loving the fact that itoje is back playing with ollie chessum, those two are an unstoppable duo 💪! let's get ready for some thrilling rugby action 🏉💥

I'm loving this move by Steve Borthwick to bring Itoje back in, gotta say the lads are looking pretty solid atm 🤩🏉. 12 games on the losing streak is crazy though, can't let that go down on their watch 👊. Reversing some of those wrongs against Scotland would be a great step forward for England. And yeah, it's been a while since they last won in Murrayfield, gotta get that monkey off their backs 🐒. Itoje and Chessum forming the front row again is giving me hope too 😊. Think they've got this one in the bag 💪.
