Mom charged with stealing $61K from Philly schools meant for her kids' care

Mother's Desperate Measures Put Philadelphia School District in the Red for $61,000

In a shocking case of financial deceit, a local mother has been charged with swindling the School District of Philadelphia out of over $61,000 meant to fund her children's therapeutic care. Laurel Schullere allegedly presented herself as the provider of these services, directing payments from the district to her own Germantown-based business, Missing Pieces.

Despite the company's claims, investigators found no evidence that Missing Pieces was operational, with two addresses listed for the firm โ€“ one belonging to an abandoned property and the other to a church. Schullere allegedly received over nine years' worth of payments totaling $61,000 but failed to forward any money to Missing Pieces.

"It's a clear case of exploitation," said Attorney General Dave Sunday. "Instead of ensuring her children received the care they needed, she misled the district and pocketed taxpayer dollars." Now, Schullere faces multiple charges, including theft by deception and related offenses, after turning herself in to authorities on Wednesday.

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ I'm literally so mad about this one! Like, a single mom goes through all that trouble just to get her hands on some cash from the school district? It's not even like she was providing any actual services - just collecting payments and pocketing them. And now her kids are still without the care they need because of her own greedy actions ๐Ÿค•. What's really wild is how she managed to scam them for over 9 years... that's some serious dedication to getting rich quick ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Can you believe this? Like, I was at my kid's school last year and we were all talking about how much more relaxed the staff was, you know? And now I hear about this one mom who's like totally swindling the system... $61k is a crazy amount of money! It's just unbelievable that she took advantage of it all for herself. I mean, what's wrong with these people?! ๐Ÿคฏ At least she's getting caught and facing charges now, but honestly, how many other people are out there doing the same thing? The school district should be more careful about who they trust with taxpayer money... like back in my day, we didn't even have to think twice before buying a new bike because it was affordable ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ

Ugh, sounds like someone's been playing a sick game of 'pay day' ๐Ÿค‘! Can you believe this poor mom thought she could scam the system that hard? I mean, I've seen some wild stuff online, but this is just crazy. Like, who tries to take advantage of a school district? Not cool, lady. ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ And now she's got a whole list of charges and a hefty price tag (literally) to pay for it. Guess you could say she really 'missed the mark' with this one ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyway, just glad someone finally caught on and brought her in... hope she gets some actual therapy soon, not just financial counseling ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ!

Ugh, this is just devastating ๐Ÿค•. I can only imagine how hard it must be for kids who are already struggling with special needs, having their parents take advantage of them like this ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. As a parent myself, the thought of anyone exploiting the system like that is just heartbreaking. And to think that $61,000 could've been used for actual therapy and support... it's just ridiculous ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm so glad the authorities are cracking down on people like Laurel Schullere who would do this to vulnerable kids and their families ๐Ÿ™Œ. It's a hard reminder that we need to be vigilant and make sure everyone is being held accountable for their actions ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ.

omg $61k is like a fortune what if she was just struggling so much that she didn't know how else to get help for her kids? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i feel bad for the kids tho they must be super confused about what happened idk why ppl do this stuff can never understand why someone would steal from the system when there's always help available for a good reason anyway gotta give credit to the AG for cracking down on this shady business ๐Ÿ‘ฎ

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, what's up with these online forums? Can't we just have a decent discussion without someone getting caught swindling public funds? ๐Ÿค‘ This story is crazy, but like, how does this even happen? A mom takes out $61k from the school district, and there's no trail of money to Missing Pieces? It's like she pulled it out of thin air... or maybe she just found a magic internet way to get paid for nothing ๐Ÿ˜‚. Anyway, gotta give credit where credit is due โ€“ at least someone's getting charged now. But let's be real, this just goes to show that some people will do whatever it takes to get their hands on money ๐Ÿ’ธ. Ugh, I need a break from all the drama ๐Ÿคฏ

OMG, like, can you even believe this?! ๐Ÿคฏ A mom just swindled the school district out of like, 61k dollars for her kids' therapy sessions? And she did it all while pretending to be some company that doesn't even exist! I mean, what's wrong with these people?!

I know some moms are struggling and need help, but this is just ridiculous. Like, if you're not going to do the job, don't take the money. It's not like they have a lot of other options for who to give it to.

And now she's getting charged with theft by deception? Like, yeah, that's totally fair. I hope she gets some serious time behind bars because this is just not okay. The thought of all those kids who could've gotten the help they needed because of her lies... it's just, ugh! ๐Ÿ˜ก

omg what a scam ๐Ÿคฏ this lady is literally taking advantage of the system and getting paid for nothin' meanwhile her kids are goin without therapy who checks on these ppl? why did the school district just keep payin her like they didnt do there research on the company first? i need to see some receipts aka proof of her business being legit before i believe this story ๐Ÿ“

Wow! I cant believe that someone would do something like this ๐Ÿคฏ. The idea of a single mom scoping out public funds meant for her kids is just crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And the fact that she created a fake business is just wild ๐Ÿš€. It's heartbreaking to think about all those families who were actually in need of help and got taken advantage of instead ๐Ÿ’”.

omg this is wild ๐Ÿคฏ $61k is a lot of cash and someone just swindled it from the school system like what's going on with these people? ๐Ÿค‘ i mean i get that parents are desperate but come on, dont be stupid lol. they gotta make sure their kids get the right help not just take money out of some1 else pocket ๐Ÿ˜”

anyway, i heard that the mom was supposed to be getting money for therapy but she wasnt even using it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ maybe she shoulda just been honest and said she needed more time or something. but noooo she had to make up this fake company and take all that cash ๐Ÿค‘. and now shes in trouble, whatevs.

anywayz, gotta say tho, $61k is a lot of money ๐Ÿค‘. i wonder if the school district couldve used it for somethin better ๐Ÿค” like new laptops or textbooks or smthn. just a thought ๐Ÿ˜Š

OMG u wont believe this ๐Ÿคฏ just saw news about a mom in Philly who scammed the school district outta 61k meant for her kids therapy lol what kinda desperate ppl do that?! ๐Ÿค‘ i mean id love my kidz too but not at the expense of others money like thats so unfair ๐Ÿ˜’ its actually a good thing she got caught now she'll pay for it and hopefully learn from her mistakes ๐Ÿ’ธ like how r u supposed to just 'make up' services 4 ur kids or wut ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I mean, can you believe this? A mom swindling the school district out of like, what, 61 grand or whatever... and she's not even using it for her kids' therapy! That just makes me mad ๐Ÿคฏ. I don't get why people do these things. It's like, we're all supposed to be looking out for each other here, but instead you gotta go and take advantage of the system? And now she's in trouble... about time too ๐Ÿ˜’.

I'm all for helping kids with special needs, but if someone's gonna do it, at least have the decency to try hard or get some real help. Not just take a bunch of money from good people who genuinely care. Ugh, my mind is already blown just thinking about how much tax payer cash she got away with ๐Ÿ’ธ. Something's gotta change, you know?

I mean, can you even believe this? Someone takes advantage of our school system like that? I'm not saying it's right, but come on, how hard is it to provide actual proof that your kid needs these services? I know we're all trying to help our kids out here, but you gotta be honest and transparent about it. It's just so frustrating. I feel for the other parents who might be struggling to make ends meet, because now they're gonna have to foot the bill for someone else's mistakes. And what really gets me is that there are people like Laurel Schullere out there taking advantage of our system. We need to do better, you know?

๐Ÿ˜ก what is wrong with these ppl?! this lady is literally stealing from the kids who need help the most and it's just appalling. $61k is a small fortune and she's just gonna pocket it all for her own gain? ๐Ÿค‘ and meanwhile, those poor kids are still waiting for their meds to be paid for... so unbelieveable that someone would do this to innocent kids ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿ˜ฌ The brazen financial scheme concocted by Laurel Schullere is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities inherent in our education system ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. While her actions may have been reprehensible, it's disconcerting that such egregious malfeasance could occur under the radar for an extended period ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm both surprised and dismayed by the scale of her deceit - $61,000 is a significant sum, equivalent to nearly 5% of the School District's annual budget ๐Ÿ“Š. This case highlights the need for robust oversight mechanisms and more effective accountability structures in our educational institutions ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ. It's heartening that Attorney General Dave Sunday has taken swift action against Schullere, sending a clear message that such exploitation will not be tolerated ๐Ÿ”’.

Ugh this is what happens when people take advantage of good intentions ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ like the school district that's supposed to help kids with needs. 61k is a lot of money and it's just being squandered by someone who probably has no idea how to manage funds... it's just lazy and selfish. And now she's gotta face the music, good for her ๐Ÿ™ƒ but what about all those kids whose care was supposed to be funded? This is not exactly reassuring for parents looking for a reliable system... I hope they get justice and closure ๐Ÿคž

I mean, can you believe this? A mom takes advantage of a good thing and screws over an entire school district for her own gain ๐Ÿคฏ! I get that we all need help sometimes, but this is just ridiculous. And the fact that she set up two fake addresses makes it even worse - like, what's next? A fake company to scam car insurance companies too? ๐Ÿ˜‚ But seriously, someone needs to hold these people accountable for their actions. Like, where were the checks and balances? I'm all for helping families in need, but we gotta make sure our systems are in place to prevent this kinda thing from happening again ๐Ÿ’ธ

๐Ÿ˜• This is so crazy, I mean I'm all for wanting the best for your kids, but come on... $61k is a lot of money! ๐Ÿค‘ It's like she was desperate and didn't know what else to do, but still, there are better ways to get help. I feel bad for the district and all the other parents who are struggling to make ends meet. This just shows how hard it can be when you're trying to navigate the system.

I'm also a bit worried about the state of the school district's finances... like, how do they even manage to lose that much money? ๐Ÿค” It's not like this mom is special, there are plenty of other people out there who might get desperate too. Anyway, I hope she gets the help she needs and learns from her mistakes. The kids are what matter most here, and we want them to have access to good care, no matter what! ๐Ÿค—

This whole situation is a perfect example of how our education system is being exploited for personal gain ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. I mean, who needs a good quality education when you can swindle the system and pocket $61,000? It's just unbelievable that someone would take advantage of such a vulnerable population - children with special needs. The fact that Laurel Schullere presented herself as a provider of therapeutic care is just mind-boggling ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

And let's talk about accountability ๐Ÿš”. We need to make sure our school districts have robust systems in place to prevent this kind of financial abuse from happening again. It's not just about the money; it's about ensuring that our children receive the services they deserve. The fact that Schullere allegedly received nine years' worth of payments without providing any actual service is a clear breach of trust ๐Ÿ’”.

As for me, I'd like to see some real reforms in how we fund special education programs ๐Ÿ“Š. We need to make sure that our tax dollars are being used effectively and efficiently, not just lining the pockets of unscrupulous individuals. The question is, will our policymakers take action to address this issue? โš–๏ธ
