Mayor Adams hosts secret reception with Albanian leaders at Gracie Mansion

Mayor Eric Adams hosted an unannounced reception at Gracie Mansion on Friday, marking the latest example of his increasingly close relationship with the Albanian government. Just one month after a four-day trip to Albania for meetings with government officials, Adams gathered with high-ranking officials from the Balkan nation and local Albanian community members in an intimate setting.

Among those in attendance were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Megi Fino and Ambassador Ervin Bushati, according to the mayor's office. The event was reportedly sponsored by the Albanian Americans Relations Council, a nonprofit focused on fostering dialogue between Albania and the US.

The reception comes as Adams prepares to leave office, with some speculating that his post-mayoralty plans may include working for foreign governments. He hinted at this possibility in recent comments, stating that countries are "calling me" to offer him work similar to what he did in New York City.

Despite the lack of transparency around the event, the mayor's office confirmed its existence after an inquiry from local news outlet Gothamist. Approximately 100 people attended the event, which included food and drink, with Deputy Mayor Tiffany Raspberry also in attendance.

The close relationship between Adams and the Albanian government has been evident in recent months, including his three flag-raisings for Albania and his son's participation in a contest inspired by "American Idol" in Albania two years ago.

im not surprised about eric adams and albania tho he's been tryin to make connections with europe rn like, why not right? albanians seem like nice ppl & theyre makin moves in america too so its only fair adams is doin the same thing ๐Ÿค

I'm low-key suspicious about this whole thing ๐Ÿค”. Mayor Adams is just using these connections to prep for some shady post-mayoral gig, right? He's been rubbing shoulders with Albanian officials and now he's got a invite to Gracie Mansion - talk about nepotism... ๐Ÿ˜. I mean, his son even went to Albania and became a YouTube star, what are the odds? ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that this event was kept under wraps is just fishy, you know? 100 people showed up to some reception at the mayor's mansion and no one knows the details? Come on, NYC!

๐Ÿคฏ So like I'm seeing this stat that NYC mayors get around 100k+ in speaking fees when they leave office ๐Ÿค‘, and Eric Adams just broke that record with the rumored foreign gov deals ๐Ÿ’ธ!

Did you know Albania has a GDP of $24B? That's tiny compared to other EU nations ๐Ÿ“Š. Meanwhile, NYC is like, a global hub, with over 65k businesses and 20M+ annual visitors ๐Ÿš€. Adams should get credit for promoting tourism, especially with that Albanian flag-raising gig ๐ŸŽ‰.

But seriously, what's up with all the close ties to foreign gov? It's not like we're at war or anything ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I mean, did you see the chart on Albania's remittances from US expats? Over $1B in 2022 alone ๐Ÿ’ธ! That's some serious cash flow.

Anyways, can't say I'm surprised by Adams' moves ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. The guy's always been about self-promotion and building those personal connections ๐Ÿ’ผ. Guess that's what makes for a successful mayor, right? ๐Ÿค”

You know I'm all about living in the moment and being present ๐ŸŒฑ, but this whole situation with Mayor Adams and the Albanian government is just kinda weird... like, what's going on here? One minute he's being super chill with them, next he's hinting at taking their money or whatever ๐Ÿ˜•. I mean, I get it, diplomacy and all that, but can't we be more transparent about these kinds of things? Transparency is key to trust and good vibes ๐ŸŒˆ. And what's up with the non-profit sponsoring the event? Red flags for me... should be something more open and above board ๐Ÿšจ.

I don't get why all these events at Gracie Mansion have to be so secretive ๐Ÿค”. Mayor Adams is building relationships with foreign leaders and it's good that he's doing that, but transparency is key, you know? Like, I'm sure there are a lot of people wondering what was discussed during those meetings and how they'll affect the city... it'd be nice if we knew more about it ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. At the same time, I guess it's cool that he's getting involved with Albania - who knows, maybe some good opportunities will come out of this ๐Ÿ’ผ. It's all about finding that balance between keeping things private and being open about what's going on... ๐Ÿ™.

the whole thing about adams and albania is just so weird ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, first of all, it's like he's got some sort of connection to the government or something and he's been dropping hints left and right about working for foreign governments after he leaves office... sounds kinda sketchy. and now this reception at gracie mansion where he's basically rubbing shoulders with high-ranking officials from albania and local community members... it just seems like he's building up some sort of network or something. but on the other hand, if it's not a big deal then why all the secrecy? ๐Ÿค” i mean, wouldn't they want to be open about their relationships with foreign governments? anyway, i guess we'll just have to wait and see what adams ends up doing after he leaves office... one thing for sure is that his post-mayoralty plans are definitely going to be interesting! ๐Ÿ˜

omg, this is getting weird ๐Ÿค”... i mean, what's up with eric adams and the albanian gov? it's like he's trying to set a record for most foreign diplomacy ๐Ÿ•บ. first, it's albania, now it's who knows where? ๐ŸŒŽ personally, i think it's kinda cool that america is still got its fingers in all these different countries, but at the same time... ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ maybe he should focus on fixing up new york city instead of taking foreign jobs ๐Ÿšฎ. and btw, 100 ppl at a reception? that's like, super exclusive ๐Ÿ˜. either way, it's def making headlines ๐Ÿ“ฐ.

idk why mayor adams gotta be so tight with albania lol ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ like what's the point of having all these connections? is he just gonna get paid to promote their country or something? ๐Ÿ˜’ and what's up with him saying countries are "calling" him for work? does that mean he's gonna start working for foreign governments now? ๐Ÿ’ธ i'm not sure if it's a good idea either way tho, too much power in the hands of one person. ๐Ÿค
