Madi Diaz's Blink-182 Cover Album: A Punk-Fueled Protest Against ICE Crackdowns
In a bold move, singer-songwriter Madi Diaz has released an album cover of Blink-182's iconic record 'Enema of the State', with all proceeds going to support the Defending Our Neighbors Fund. The fund, which benefits immigrants facing ICE crackdowns under the Trump administration, is the brainchild of Diaz, who hopes that her release will help raise awareness and funds for those in need.
Diaz initially set out to record a cover of 'Enema of the State' as an exercise in nostalgia while working on her latest album, Fatal Optimist. However, as she delved deeper into the project, she began to realize the irony behind the title's release date in 2025. "How ridiculous it is to cover this record in 2025 when it feels like we need to flush the system and give our whole government a health check/gut check," Diaz shared on Instagram.
Diaz's version of 'Enema of the State' has been playfully rebranded as 'Enema of the (Garden) State', reflecting her New Jersey roots. The release is available for purchase via Bandcamp, with all proceeds going towards supporting the Defending Our Neighbors Fund. The fund aims to provide immediate grants for trusted organizations to deploy legal advice and bond assistance.
For Diaz, the release is more than just a nostalgic tribute to teenage rebellion โ it's a statement against ICE crackdowns that are affecting immigrant communities. "There is so much pain with ICE raids and false condemnations of hard-working American citizens and undocumented immigrants," she said. "I may have been born on US soil but my family came from Danish and Peruvian immigrants. So much of The USA is populated by people who came from other places. There is a lot here we have to love and protect and nurture."
The Defending Our Neighbors Fund has become an important cause for Diaz, who hopes that her album cover release will help raise awareness and funds for those in need. As she put it, "For me, it's about much more than a nostalgia for teenage rebellion against mom and dad. Fuck ICE. Enema Of The State Forever."
