Junior Brown to open for Greensky Bluegrass at Ann Arbor Folk Fest - Detroit Metro Times

Junior Brown to Bring the Country Sound to Ann Arbor Folk Festival

The 49th Ann Arbor Folk Festival has just gotten a whole lot more interesting, as acclaimed country artist Junior Brown has been announced as the opening act for Michigan jam band Greensky Bluegrass on January 30. The festival, now with an updated format, promises to deliver an exciting two-day event that showcases a diverse range of local and national acts.

Junior Brown, known for his unique "guit-steel" double-neck guitar, which combines elements of electric guitar and lap steel guitar, is set to take the stage alongside Greensky Bluegrass. This blend of country and surf rock is reminiscent of an unlikely fusion between Jimi Hendrix and Ernest Tubb, making him a standout performer in the festival lineup.

Brown's background in the Austin, Texas music scene in the 1990s speaks to his roots in country music, while his signature sound has garnered him a loyal following. Notably, he has been a favorite performer at The Ark, the Ann Arbor acoustic music venue for which the folk festival serves as a fundraiser.

The updated format of this year's festival features Greensky Bluegrass headlining on Friday, January 30, followed by a larger bill on Saturday, January 31. The latter promises to be just as exciting, with acts like Amos Lee, Dawes, and Ryan Montbleau taking the stage alongside local favorites such as Rabbitology and Jon Muq.

Tickets for the festival are now available, ranging from $56.60 to $281.50, offering something for every musical taste and budget. With Junior Brown's electrifying performance set to kick off the event, fans of country and Americana music won't want to miss out on this unforgettable experience.

🤔 I'm kinda stoked about Junior Brown bringing his guit-steel vibe to the Ann Arbor Folk Festival! 🎸 It's gonna be awesome to see him share the stage with Greensky Bluegrass. But, gotta fact-check that he's been performing at The Ark for ages... 📊 According to my sources, Junior Brown hasn't been a regular at The Ark since the 2000s. Still super excited about this lineup though! 🎶

I don’t usually comment but I just had to say that I'm super stoked about Junior Brown being part of the Ann Arbor Folk Festival lineup 🤠! His unique sound is like nothing I've ever heard before, it's like a fusion of country and surf rock... who knew those two genres could go so well together? 😎 I mean, I love Jimi Hendrix but adding Ernest Tubb to that mix sounds like a match made in heaven. Junior Brown's got this crazy "guit-steel" thing going on with his double-neck guitar and it's gonna be lit 🔥! I'm definitely getting my tickets for the festival now 🎟️, can't wait to see him perform alongside Greensky Bluegrass and all those other awesome acts!

omg i'm so down for junior brown to come play at ann arbor folk fest 🤠🎸! his "guit-steel" thing is straight fire 🔥 and i love how he blends country with surf rock vibes. it's like jimi hendrix and ernest tubb had a baby 👶💕. and greensky bluegrass is always a great lineup too, plus the fact that it's a fundraiser for the ark is awesome 🎉. i've been to some of their shows before and they're always so much fun. i'm thinking of getting tix for both days 🎟️👍

Ugh, think about it, you're gonna pay that kinda cash just to listen to some country music... 🤑 Junior Brown is like a novelty act, his "guit-steel" thingy is cool I guess but will it even translate to the festival setting? And what's up with the format change? Trying to make more money off us or something? 😒 Still, might be worth checking out if you're into that stuff...

🎸 I'm hyped about Junior Brown bringing his unique sound to Ann Arbor Folk Festival! The idea of a country-surf rock fusion is intriguing - reminds me of Jimi Hendrix's experimentation with different styles. With his loyal following and background in the Austin music scene, I'm excited to see how he'll mesh with Greensky Bluegrass and other acts on the bill 🤩. The festival format looks promising too - having a mix of headliners and local favorites will surely cater to diverse tastes. Definitely going to check it out! 👍
