Detroit's Joe Louis Southern Kitchen Expands with Grand Opening in Southfield
Joe Louis Southern Kitchen, a boxing-themed brunch spot named after the legendary boxer Joe Louis, officially opened its doors in Southfield last November. The restaurant's owner, Joe Louis Barrow II, a son of the boxer, celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 9.
As part of this milestone, Barrow announced that commemorative items featuring his father's legacy would be available for purchase at the checkout counter, allowing customers to take home a piece of history. This move aims to inspire patrons and share the spirit of Joe Louis while they dine at the restaurant in Southfield.
The menu features a range of breakfast-style options, including scrambles, skillets, omelets, sandwiches, and more. The 5,300-square-foot space can accommodate about 99 diners and staffs 35 people, according to the company's statement.
In addition to its food offerings, the Southfield location also features a gift shop selling Joe Louis merchandise, marking a first for the brand. This unique aspect is expected to further enhance the dining experience centered around family, friends, comfort, and connection.
Johnny Cannon, co-CEO of Joe Louis Southern Kitchen along with Barrow, expressed his enthusiasm about seeing firsthand how their restaurants resonate with guests. He noted that their original location in Detroit has grown into a staple of the community, and they are confident that those in Southfield will also enjoy their unique dining experience.
As part of its growth plans, the chain is set to open its third location in downtown Detroit next April. With this expansion, Joe Louis Southern Kitchen aims to continue delivering its signature blend of comfort food, boxing nostalgia, and community spirit to a wider audience across Michigan.
