Highland Park Activist Sues Mayoral Candidate Solomon Kinloch for Defamation Over False Allegations
A high-profile defamation lawsuit has been filed against Reverend Solomon Kinloch Jr., a Detroit mayoral candidate, by Highland Park activist Robert Davis. The lawsuit claims that Kinloch maliciously lied about Davis during and after a recent televised debate.
Kinloch had accused Davis of being a paid operative for Mary Sheffield, the leading contender in the mayoral race, at the debate on October 15th. However, without providing any evidence to support his claim, Kinloch made these defamatory statements. The lawsuit alleges that Kinloch fabricated these claims to discredit Davis and revive his failing campaign.
Davis denies the allegations and has stated that Kinloch made these false statements with actual malice, revealing a deep-seated animus towards him due to Davis's exposure of Kinloch's past criminal convictions for assault and fraudulent real-estate transactions involving Triumph Church.
The lawsuit also seeks damages from Kinloch, claiming he lost potential clients as a result of his defamatory statements. Additionally, Davis is requesting the court to declare that Triumph's purchase and sale of an AMC theater site in Southfield was fraudulent.
Earlier this month, Davis alleged in another lawsuit that Kinloch had violated state and federal laws regarding insider transactions involving Triumph Church's church property acquisition.
The mayoral election is heating up, with a recent survey showing Mary Sheffield leading the race by 65% to Kinloch's 14%.
