Former Phillies OF Max Kepler suspended 80 games for PED violation

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Max Kepler has been handed an 80-game suspension by Major League Baseball, stemming from a positive test for Epitrenbolone, a banned performance-enhancing substance. The suspension will also prevent Kepler from participating in the playoffs.

According to reports, Kepler was found to have tested positive for Epitrenbolone, which is included in MLB's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. As a result of this violation, Kepler will miss 80 regular-season games, causing him to sit out several crucial matchups and potentially impact his already struggling season at the plate.

In the 2025 season, Kepler batted .216 with just 18 home runs, both numbers significantly lower than his career averages. Despite some improvement in August, when he slashed .273, Kepler's overall production was limited by an otherwise dismal season.

This suspension marks the second PED-related ban in Philadelphia this year. José Alvarado, a relief pitcher who played for the Phillies last season, received an 80-game suspension of his own. The Phillies have since signed outfielder Adolis García to play right field and are giving high-ranked prospect Justin Crawford an opportunity to be the everyday center fielder.

The 32-year-old Kepler, who was with the team on a one-year deal, had hoped to rebound from a tough season but now faces significant consequences for his involvement in the league's steroid policy.

🤕 just heard about max kepler getting an 80-game suspension it's sad because he was struggling this season and i feel bad for him 🤒 performance-enhancing substances are so frustrating - they can ruin a player's career like that 🙅‍♂️ i'm all for clean competition, but these suspensions seem kinda harsh sometimes ⚾

Ugh, baseball is just so full of drama 💥! I mean, I get it, PEDs are super serious and all that, but can't they just take one test without it being a big deal? Like, Max Kepler was already having a tough season at the plate and now he's gonna miss like 80 games? That's rough 🤕. And to make matters worse, this is the second PED ban for Philly this year, so I guess you could say they're just getting schooled 😂.

I feel bad for Kepler, though. He was on a one-year deal and had hoped to bounce back from last season, but now he's gotta face some serious consequences 🤦‍♂️. The Phillies are trying to rebuild their team and this just puts another hurdle in the way. And now they're having to sign new players like Adolis García... it's just a lot of drama 💁‍♀️!

max kepler's season has been all about disappointment 🤦‍♂️... i mean, the guy's always been a solid player, but this year he just couldn't get it together at the plate .216 batting average is straight trash 😩. now with an 80-game suspension to go along with it, it's gonna be tough for him to turn things around in the playoffs 💔... i feel bad for the guy, he was counting on a rebound from last year's struggles 🤞. guess this means adolis garcia gets to shine in right field 😎.

the phillies are really ridding themselves of all these underperforming players its not like kepler was bringing a lot to the table anyway .80 games is actually pretty lenient if you ask me i mean, epitrenbolone is like super banned stuff but im no expert or anything .alr could've done the same thing and who knows how many more players are gonna be caught .keeps it all very entertaining for us fans though

😔 its so sad to see max kepler get suspended like that, i feel bad for him and his family... 80 games is a long time and it's gonna be tough on him, especially when playoffs come around 🤕. i know he wasn't performing well this season but you never know what's going on behind the scenes... maybe he was struggling with some personal issues or something? 🤷‍♀️

and to think he was looking forward to a better season next year too 😢. i just hope he gets the help he needs and comes back stronger in the future 💪. its always tough when players get caught up in this stuff, but at least they're getting the support they need now... fingers crossed for max 🤞

Man I'm so surprised about Max Kepler getting caught for PEDs 🤯 Like, he's always been a solid player, but this 80-game suspension is huge for him - that's like almost half the season! 🕰️ And it's not just him, the Phillies already had another guy suspended earlier in the year too... José Alvarado got an 80-game one too 😞. It's crazy how these things can add up and hurt teams' chances, especially with playoffs coming up.

I feel bad for Kepler though, he was having a rough season anyway 💔. But you gotta take responsibility for your actions, right? I hope he learns from this and gets back to his old self soon 🤞. And hopefully the Phillies can make some more moves to help him out... maybe signing Adolis García was a good move? 🤔

What a joke! Max Kepler gets suspended for 80 games and he's still gonna show up for like 2-3 games before being benched again. What a waste of a player. The Phillies need guys who can perform under pressure, not some dude who's just going to tank the whole season. And now they're giving Adolis García a shot? Please, that guy's got more skill than Kepler in his sleep 🤣

🤕 What's up with all these PED suspensions? It's like baseball is always trying to stay clean 🏋️‍♂️, but sometimes it feels like players just can't resist the temptation 💔. Max Kepler was already having a tough season at the plate and now he gets an 80-game ban 😱... that's like missing half the year! 🌟 I feel bad for him, 'cause he's not even supposed to be in the league anymore if you know what I mean 😔. It just makes me wonder how many other players are getting caught 🤐. MLB needs to find a way to balance being strict with giving players second chances 🤝 #MLBSuspensions #PEDsAreATotalDownfall

I'm not gonna lie, I'm kinda disappointed in this news 😐... I mean, Max Kepler has been through some struggles at the plate already, and this suspension is just gonna hurt him even more. 80 games is a long time to sit out and it's really gonna impact his chances of making an All-Star game.

I know MLB has rules in place to prevent cheating, but it's hard not to feel bad for Kepler 🤔... He's been working hard to turn things around after that tough season, and now this setback is just gonna be a major roadblock. And to make matters worse, he's already on a one-year deal, so this suspension could affect his future with the team.

I do love how the Phillies are shaking things up by signing García and giving Crawford a shot, though 👍... It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. But for now, I'm just hoping Kepler can learn from this mistake and come back stronger next year 💪.

ugh what's the point of even having rules if people just gonna find ways to cheat? 🤷‍♂️ I feel bad for Max Kepler, he was already having a rough year and this suspension is gonna make things even tougher for him. But at the same time, it's not like it's fair to the other players who work hard every day and follow the rules. 80 games is a big chunk of the season, you know? It's gonna be tough for them to come back from that. 🤕 And it's not just Kepler, it's another example of how the system isn't doing enough to keep people from cheating. 😒

I gotta say, 80 games is pretty harsh for a first-time offender 🤔. I mean, it's not like Kepler was trying to cheat or anything, just got caught up with some bad stuff 🚫. The fact that he was only using a performance-enhancing substance that wasn't even on the list of banned substances last year 🤷‍♂️ makes it even more confusing.

Plus, 80 games is gonna put him in a tough spot for the playoffs 📅. I feel bad for the guy, 'cause he's been struggling this season anyway 😔. But at the same time, I get why MLB is cracking down on PEDs 💪. It's all about maintaining some semblance of fairness in the game.

It's also weird that Kepler got hit with an 80-game suspension when there are guys who've gotten much lighter sentences for similar offenses 🤯. Like, what was it with the decision makers at Phillies? They're already making moves to shake things up with new signings and prospects 📈...

Umm... so like max kepler got caught taking steroids or something 🤔 idk why he would do that tho? i mean, i know its a big league and all, but whats the point of trying to cheat the system, right? 🤑 anywayz, 80 games is pretty harsh, feels like hes gonna miss out on alot of games... i wonder if hell come back strong next year or somethin' 🤞 i'm actually more curious about adolis garcia, who's that guy again?

man this is so crazy 🤯 like kepler's career is literally being held back by these scandals he's got some talent but it looks like his personal life is getting in the way 💔 80 games isn't that long in baseball terms but it's gonna be a huge blow to his team and he was already struggling this season anyway... it's like he was given one last chance on a one-year deal and now he's gotta sit out the playoffs too 😢 what were they thinking giving him such a harsh sentence? it feels like some players just don't get how steroids work 👎
