Cameroon beat South Africa to reach AFCON quarter-final spot

Cameroon's Indomitable Lions edged South Africa out of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals with a narrow 2-1 victory, sending them to a heavyweight showdown against Morocco.

In a high-intensity match at Al Medina Stadium in Rabat, Junior Tchamadeu gave Cameroon the lead just before halftime with his 34th-minute strike. Then two minutes later, Christian Kofane sealed the win for the Lions with his towering header from a Mahamadou Nagida cross.

South Africa's Hugo Broos was left to lament a string of missed chances in the first half that proved costly, and also saw his team concede two goals within a span of just three minutes. While their hopes were dashed, the Bafana Bafana can now focus on the upcoming World Cup.

The win marks Cameroon's passage into the quarterfinals for the fifth time, while they will be looking to overcome Morocco in front of their home crowd to reach the final for the first time since 1978. With the pressure firmly on Morocco as five-time champions seeking a first title in 50 years, Cameroon can enter this clash with confidence.

Coach David Pagou described his side's victory as a "long way away" from securing the AFCON title, and expressed relief after what he called a chaotic tournament that began when former coach Marc Brys was sacked. The team has overcome significant challenges to reach the quarterfinals, with their new coach having outdone Broos by achieving this success.

For South Africa, while disappointment will be high following elimination, there are still positives to take away from this tournament.

omg ๐Ÿคฏ i cant believe cameroon made it thru lol they played so well in that match against south africa!! junior tchamadeu was on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and christian kofane's header was insane ๐Ÿ˜ฒ i'm literally hyped for the next match against morocco ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฒโค๏ธ cant wait to see them take on those giants in front of their home crowd ๐Ÿ’ช

I mean, what a shock, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Cameroon beating SA 2-1 in the AFCON quarterfinals. I guess all that hype about "The Bafana Bafana" wasn't so bafu after all ๐Ÿคฃ. On a more serious note, Congrats to Cameroon on making it to the semifinals for the first time since 1978! ๐ŸŽ‰ They'll have their work cut out against Morocco, but I'm loving the confidence they're showing. And can we talk about SA's "chances" in the first half? ๐Ÿ˜ณ It was like they were trying to give Cameroon a free goal or something ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Anyway, gotta hand it to Broos and the Bafana on trying their best โ€“ at least they made it interesting ๐Ÿ”ฅ!

omg can't believe Cameroon made it thru ๐Ÿคฏ I was really rooting for SA but they just couldn't catch a break ๐Ÿ˜” Tchamadeu and Kofane were on fire tho! Morocco better bring their A-game if they wanna take down the Lions ๐Ÿฆ. South Africa's gonna bounce back from this tho, got all the potential to make it far in the World Cup ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” so i think what's impressive about cameroon here is how they've managed to turn things around under new coach david pagou ๐Ÿ”„ after some initial chaos, the team has really started to gel and their teamwork has been superb ๐Ÿ”’ junior tchamadeu's goal was a real turning point in the match ๐Ÿ’ฅ and christian kofane's header from outside the box was just incredible ๐Ÿ˜ฎ what's also interesting is how cameroon will now face morocco at home, which should be a massive boost for them ๐Ÿ  it'll be tough for morocco to contain the lions' pace and energy ๐ŸŒช๏ธ but overall, i think cameroon have every chance of going all the way in this tournament ๐Ÿ’ช meanwhile south africa's elimination is definitely a disappointment ๐Ÿ˜” but there are still some positives to take away from their campaign, like broos's tactical acumen ๐Ÿ‘

Omg u gotta feel for SA tho! They were so close to advancing but just couldn't catch a break ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜” Those missed chances in the 1st half were like, totally game-changers. But I got love for Cameroon too - they've been through some crazy stuff with new coaches and whatnot, and still managed to pull off an epic win ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘ Junior Tchamadeu is a total beast on the field! And yeah, Morocco's gonna be super tough to beat at home but I think Cameroon's got this ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ It's gonna be an intense match, can't wait to watch it! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

afaik afcon's all about the drama lol... cameroon just managed to win against south africa on a pair of headers that had to have been a fluke . morocco's gonna be a toughie tho - they're basically the fave for a reason, right? i'm not saying cameroon doesn't deserve a shot at the title, but they've gotta pull off some magic if they wanna take down the champs ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ†

OMG, what a thriller of a match ๐Ÿคฏ! Cameroon totally deserved that win, they were on fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ! Junior Tchamadeu's goal was pure magic โœจ, and Christian Kofane's header was the icing on the cake ๐Ÿฐ. South Africa just couldn't catch a break โš ๏ธ, all those missed chances came back to haunt them ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

I'm low-key rooting for Cameroon now ๐Ÿค—, they've got this! Morocco better bring their A-game, or it'll be curtains ๐Ÿ‘‹. Coach David Pagou's team has shown incredible resilience ๐Ÿ’ช, overcoming so much drama and adversity to get here. And let's not forget, SA still have a lot to take away from this tournament ๐Ÿค, they can build on that for the World Cup ๐ŸŒŸ! #AFCON #LionsOfCameroon #MoroccoNext ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿคฉ Oh man, Cameroon's win over South Africa was insane! They really showed up big time in the AFCON and now they're on to Morocco. I gotta say, Junior Tchamadeu is a beast ๐Ÿ˜‚, 2 goals in a span of like 3 minutes is unheard of. And that header by Christian Kofane? Unbelievable ๐Ÿคฏ! South Africa had so many chances too but just couldn't capitalize... huge disappointment for them. But hey, the Bafana Bafana can take positives from this tournament and go into the World Cup with a fresh mindset ๐Ÿ’ช. Morocco is gonna be tough, but Cameroon's got this! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

OMG what a match!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜† Cameroon is so hyped right now! ๐ŸŽ‰ Junior and Christian are goalscorers for life after that epic performance! ๐Ÿ™Œ I'm loving the underdog story of Cameroon making it to the quarterfinals for the 5th time ๐Ÿคฉ. They're gonna give Morocco a run for their money, especially with the home crowd cheering them on ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ’ช. South Africa's squad is still strong and they'll bounce back from this loss ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŸ I'm rooting for Cameroon to win it all! โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿคฉ I'm so glad Cameroon made it to the next round! Their team played like a well-oiled machine, working together and supporting each other on the field ๐Ÿ’ช. It's amazing how far they've come since the start of this tournament - all those challenges with their coach change, but they persevered and stayed focused ๐Ÿ™. Now, let's see if they can keep that momentum going against Morocco... it'll be tough, but I'm rooting for them! ๐Ÿ˜„

๐Ÿค” This win for Cameroon is like a perfect example of how governance can lead to success... I mean, have you seen the squad they assembled? It's like they had a clear vision and stuck to it! And let me tell you, their coach David Pagou is doing something right - outperforming Hugo Broos. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Now, South Africa on the other hand, it's like they got stuck with the wrong team captain... I mean, Hugo Broos. The man can't catch a break! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And those missed chances in the first half? That's what happens when you don't have a solid infrastructure to support your teams.

But here's the thing - we need to talk about the state of football development in Africa. Cameroon and South Africa are like the poster children for how investment in sports can lead to national pride... but there's still so much work to be done! ๐Ÿ’ช

can u blame south africa 4 not goin all out in that match?? they had some clear chances but just cudnt capitalize ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ† cameroon's win is a great statement tho, shows they're a force 2 b reckoned with in afcon. morocco's gonna be a tougher nut 2 crack tho ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿคฏ just think about it, Cameroon beat South Africa 2-1 in a match where they almost gave up hope ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, who would've thought that Junior Tchamadeu's goal would be the one to turn the game around? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ And then Christian Kofane scores a header like 2 mins later and it's game over for SA ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, Cameroon goes to Morocco next and I think they've got this ๐Ÿ™Œ Morocco's gonna be tough but I gotta believe in the Indomitable Lions ๐Ÿ”ฅ They came so close last time they were here (1978) and now it's their turn ๐Ÿ‘‘

And for SA, it's all about moving forward, Broos' team has some great talent but they just couldn't get that one big break ๐Ÿค” Still gotta give 'em props for making the tournament and giving it a good run ๐Ÿ’ช
