Camden County man pleads guilty after his girlfriend's body was found in a fridge in the woods

Camden Man Admits to Lesser Charge in Femicide Case, Faces 17 Years Behind Bars

A gruesome discovery in New Jersey's Belleplain State Forest last December led to the arrest and eventual plea of Christopher Blevins, 46, who is accused of murdering his 50-year-old girlfriend, Laura Hughes. The shocking crime involved Hughes' body being found inside a refrigerator, wrapped in a sleeping bag, bound with straps, and covered in carpet.

Blevins entered a guilty plea on the lesser charge of aggravated manslaughter on Monday, according to the Camden County prosecutor's office. As part of his plea deal, he will serve 17 years in state prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 5.

The investigation into Hughes' death revealed a history of domestic abuse between Blevins and Hughes, with state police alleging that they had a tumultuous relationship. The discovery of the crime scene, including a gun and blue straps found in Blevins' apartment, provided crucial evidence against him.

Blevins' extradition to Mexico was a key moment in the case, as he initially fled the country after allegedly being involved in a bar fight. However, he eventually surrendered to authorities in Mexico City, where he confessed to having killed someone during that incident.

Hughes is survived by her two teenage daughters, who will likely be forever changed by their mother's tragic and avoidable death at the hands of her partner. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help when needed.

The details of this heinous crime are still reeling through the community, with many left to grapple with the question of how such a tragedy could have occurred in plain sight. As Blevins faces justice, it is essential that those affected by similar situations seek support and resources to prevent further harm.

My heart goes out to Laura's daughters, poor things... 17 years doesn't feel like enough for someone who's already suffered so much 😔. It's just devastating that domestic abuse can escalate to such a horrific point, and it's heartbreaking that their mom is gone 💔. I'm glad Blevins is facing justice, but we need to remember that this isn't about punishing him, it's about making sure his actions don't hurt others like Laura's daughters did 🤕. We have to look out for each other, especially those who are struggling in silence... they deserve love, support, and a safe haven ❤️.

😱 OMG can you believe what this dude did?! 17 years behind bars is not enough for someone who brutally murdered their partner like that... I mean what was going through his mind?! 🤯 They found Laura's body in a fridge like it was a freezer or something, wrapped up like she was sleeping... it's just so sickening. And he had a history of domestic abuse with her too? That's just heartbreaking for those 2 teenage girls who lost their mom... we gotta keep raising awareness about this stuff and supporting victims and survivors 💔

man I'm just so sad about this whole thing 🤕 it's like what even is domestic violence any more? we're supposed to live in a society where women are protected from their partners and stuff but clearly that's not the case here Laura was 50 years old for crying out loud she shouldn't have had to go through all this. 17 years is way too much time for some dude who's clearly messed up, I mean we should be supporting him with therapy or something instead of locking him up.

and what's with the refrigerator thing?! 😱 I don't even want to think about it. anyway, I hope those daughters of hers can heal and move on from this tragedy and that people can learn from it so maybe we can prevent more stuff like this in the future 🤞

.. 17 years is still way too long for anyone to be behind bars... I know we can't change the past, but maybe this case will bring some hope for others who are struggling in their own relationships. It's a tough reminder that help is always out there, even if it feels like nobody's listening 🤕. I mean, Laura's daughters are going to have a hard road ahead of them, but at least they know the truth now... and that's something. Maybe we can use this as an opportunity to talk more about domestic violence and how to spot the warning signs? We gotta look out for each other 💖.

I'm so sick of these domestic violence cases! Like, can't people just get help when they need it? 🤯 I mean, 17 years for this guy doesn't even feel like enough... he's basically getting a slap on the wrist. And what about Laura's daughters? They're gonna be scarred for life by this, and the fact that there were warning signs all along is just heartbreaking 😔. I know we can't control everyone's actions, but as a society, we need to do better at supporting victims of abuse and holding perpetrators accountable 💪. We gotta make sure these cases don't get swept under the rug or ignored... it's time for real change 🌟.

I don’t usually comment but I just can't help thinking about the impact this case will have on Laura's daughters. 17 years might seem like a long time, but it's not even close to the kind of trauma they'll experience in a lifetime. And that part about Blevins having a bar fight in Mexico? Like, what was going through his mind? It just blows my mind how someone can make such huge choices that put others at risk... 🤯💔

🚨👮‍♂️ This femicide case is just heartbreaking 🤕... 17 years behind bars isn't enough for someone who took the life of their partner over a tumultuous relationship, you know? 🤷‍♀️ It's a stark reminder that domestic violence can escalate into horrific crimes and it's crucial we support survivors and offer them a safe space to heal ❤️. The fact that Blevins was able to evade justice for so long due to his extradition to Mexico is just mind-boggling 😲. We need more resources in place to help victims of abuse and hold perpetrators accountable 💪.
