Anthony Joshua's driver faces serious charges after fatal crash in Nigeria.
The Nigerian police have charged Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, with causing death by dangerous driving following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two people. The incident occurred on December 29 on a busy highway linking Lagos and Ibadan, where Joshua was traveling as a passenger. According to eyewitnesses, the Lexus SUV driven by Kayode was speeding when its tire burst while trying to overtake another vehicle. The vehicle then crashed into an illegally parked lorry carrying soya beans, resulting in fatal injuries for two people: Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both 36.
Kayode, a member of Joshua's team for many years, has been granted bail, but he will remain in custody until he meets the conditions. Despite suffering minor injuries, Kayode was taken to hospital after the crash and kept under observation for two days. Joshua also sustained minor injuries in the accident.
The driver's actions are being scrutinized by authorities, with the Federal Road Safety Corps stating that they believe Kayode was driving "beyond the legally prescribed speed limit." The agency has charged him with a range of offenses, including driving without a valid license and failing to drive with due care and attention.
Kayode is set to appear in court on January 20.
The accident comes at a time when Joshua was preparing to return to boxing early this year after a recent victory over Jake Paul. The boxer paid his respects to the victims' families at a funeral home following the crash.
Joshua, 36, and Kayode were traveling with Ayodele and Ghami, who died in the accident.
