Algeria 1-0 DR Congo: Africa Cup of Nations last 16 – as it happened

Algeria has edged past Democratic Republic of Congo 1-0 in extra time to send them packing from the Africa Cup of Nations. In stunning fashion, 22-year-old Adel Boulbina scored the winner two minutes into extra time after substitute Algeria had been awarded a corner kick.

Boulbina's goal was the result of a clever combination play between Zerrouki and the Algerian winger Adil Boulbina cut inside from the left wing, beating a couple of DR Congo players before unleashing an unstoppable effort past goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi. The ball sailed into the bottom corner with precision.

DR Congo came close to equalizing but were denied by a brilliant interception from Algeria defender Himad Abdelli, who deflected Ibrahim Mayele's header attempt wide. In normal time, Axel Tuanzebe had headed the best chance of the first half inches wide while Mohamed Amoura spurned a huge opportunity when bursting into the box.

Algeria will now face Nigeria in the quarter-finals, a contest that is sure to be highly anticipated given both teams' rich football histories. DR Congo, on the other hand, will need to pick themselves up from this heartbreaking loss and focus on their upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March.

Just saw that Algeria made it outta Africa Cup Nations without losing a head 🤣 what's more surprising is Adel Boulbina's age - 22 and already scoring the winning goal in extra time, sounds like he's already planning his retirement home 😂 congrats to Algeria on making it to the quarters, now let's see if they can take down Nigeria... that's a tough one! 🤔

Wow 🤩, I'm literally speechless after watching that game! Adel Boulbina's goal was insane 💥! The way he cut inside and slotted it past the goalkeeper was pure magic ✨! Algeria deservedly won that one and they're going to take on Nigeria in the quarters. That's gonna be a tough one for them, but I'm sure they'll give it their all 💪. DR Congo are gutted though 😔, losing in extra time is never easy. Hope they can bounce back strong from this and do well in their World Cup qualifiers 🤞

Omg, what an amazing upset! 😲 I mean, Algeria literally took down DRC in Africa Cup of Nations like that? Adel Boulbina's goal was insane! 😍 The DR Congo guys were so close to tying it up, but Himad Abdelli saved the day with that huge interception. And can we talk about Axel Tuanzebe's header attempt? Like, inches away from scoring and Nigeria is waiting for him in the next round 🤯. Algeria vs Nigeria is gonna be a battle royale! 💥

DR Congo just got savaged 🤕👊 [Image of a corner kick with a red card being shown to one of the Congo players 🚫]. Algeria is on fire 🔥, Nigeria better watch out 👀 [GIF of a soccer player running away from an opponent 😂].

omg what an upset 🤯 Algeria totally deserved it after DR Congo's constant pressure they were so close like 2 minutes into extra time is crazy 😲 but that goal was insane Adel Boulbina is a genius 🙌 and I love how Algeria's team came together to score that winner was amazing 💥 anyways, Nigeria better watch out now lol 🤪

OMG 😍 Adel Boulbina is a total genius!!! 🤯 I mean, that goal was so clutch! 💥 The way he cut inside and slayed those DR Congo players was pure magic 🔮. And can we talk about Zerrouki's assist? Genius move right there 👏! Algeria is on fire this tournament and I'm loving every minute of it 🔥 Can't wait to see what Adel Boulbina does next 🤞

man 22-year-old Adel Boulbina just saved Algeria's bacon 🙌 they were getting smashed by Congos players but he comes out of nowhere and scores the winner in the last minute of extra time 💥 I'm still trying to process how that happened, it was like a dream come true for Algerian fans... my mate who was watching with me at home is going mental 🤯 now they gotta face Nigeria in the quarters which should be a tough one 😬

Ugh 🤕 Algeria's win over DRC is kinda sweet but let's not sugarcoat it - that was a close call for DRC and now they gotta regroup for the World Cup qualifiers 🕰️. I mean, Congo's got some talented young players like Adel Boulbina but can they string together a decent tournament run? Nigeria's gonna be tough too, their squad looks solid... we'll see how that plays out 🤔. Also, what's up with DRC's defense - they were gettin' pwned on the counter and their goalies aren't exactly setting the world on fire 😬

🤩 I'm so hyped for Algeria! Who would've thought they'd edge out the DRC like that? Adel Boulbina's winner was absolute magic 💫! The way he just cut inside and unleashed that unstoppable shot was insane 🤯. And can we talk about how close DR Congo came to equalizing, only to have Abdelli step in and save the day 🙌? The DRC will be back stronger for their World Cup qualifiers though, I'm sure they won't let this loss get them down 😊. Nigeria's gonna be a tough one for Algeria but I've got faith in them! Bring it on ⚽

You know what's crazy? I was just thinking about how much I love trying new recipes in the kitchen 😂. I tried this amazing Moroccan chickpea stew the other day and it was SO good! The combination of spices and flavors was insane 🤯. I mean, have you ever had Moroccan food before? It's like a whole different world of flavor 🌍. Anyway, back to the Africa Cup of Nations... yeah, Algeria played a sick game 😎. That young Adel Boulbina is a total star player! Can't wait to see what they do against Nigeria in the quarter finals ⚽️. And oh man, DR Congo's loss was tough to watch 🤕. Guess you just gotta bounce back from that and crush those World Cup qualifiers 💪.

OMG, I'm dyin' over here!! Algeria's win was so underdog-esque 🤯! I mean, they were down and out for like 90 minutes, but that young Adel Boulbina came through in the clutch 🚀! His goal was SO sick 😲, I felt like I was right there with him on the field, celebrating along with Zerrouki and the Algerian squad 🎉. DR Congo's loss is a huge bummer tho 😔, they were so close to coming back from that two-goal deficit... and then that one genius interception by Abdelli 💡! Nigeria's gonna be tough, but I think Algeria's got this 🔥 can't wait for the quarter-finals, it's gonna be EPIC!!!

OMG, Adel Boulbina's goal was like a precision strike in an FPS game - "BOOM!" :D. I mean, who needs FIFA 23 when you've got real-life Adil Boulbina slicing it past DR Congo's keeper? Algeria's corner kick strategy must be the new 'secret sauce' everyone's been looking for . Meanwhile, DR Congo is like the underdog in a WWE match - all heart, but still getting smashed by Algerian's fancy footwork . Can't wait to see Adel Boulbina do the happy dance with his team - they're about to get some major #AFCON bragging rights!

omg what a stunning comeback by Algeria 🙌 they were so down but then that last minute winner from Adel Boulbina was pure magic 💫 i mean i was on the edge of my seat watching this match with my friends and we were all screaming at the screen when he scored 😂 and those DR Congo players must have been devastated their best chance in the game got deflected away by that Algeria defender Himad Abdelli 🤦‍♂️ anyway congrats to Algeria for making it through to the quarter finals now they gotta take on Nigeria who's a tough team 💪

I gotta say, I'm kinda sad for DR Congo 🤕... they had some decent chances but just couldn't quite capitalize. That goal by Adel Boulbina was insane 💥! Algeria's squad has been quietly building momentum all tournament and it's great to see them get the win. But, I still think Nigeria is gonna be a tough draw for 'em 🤔... those guys are always hungry for a win. On the other hand, DR Congo needs to regroup and refocus - they can't let this loss define their season 😬

OMG what a game!! 22-year-old Adel Boulbina is a total beast! That corner kick was pure magic and he just slot it past Mpasi like it was nothing 😂👏 Algeria's team spirit must be crazy strong to win that late goal. And Congo, they just got robbed! They had some great chances but couldn't capitalize 🤦‍♂️. I'm hyped for the Nigeria game tho - should be a real nail-biter 💥🔥 Can Algeria go all the way and win that Africa Cup? 🤞

omg did u know that i tried the new truffle burger at this tiny cafe near my place last wknd 🍔😍 it was literally TO DIE FOR ! i mean i know its not exactly related but have u ever noticed how some foods just transport u to a different world ? like when ur eating truffle burger u feel like ur in france or somethin lol anyway back to africa cup n stuff 😂

I'm not buying it 😒. A single goal in extra time? That's just a fluke 🤦‍♂️. I mean, what are the chances of scoring like that? It's just one minute into overtime and suddenly the whole game changes? I need to see more 💪. And what about DR Congo's squad? They're way underdogs here and they got outplayed ⚽️. This win might give Algeria a confidence boost but let's not get too ahead of ourselves 🤔. Nigeria is gonna be tough, we'll see how this unfolds 📺.

man this algeria team is on fire 🚀 they have so much skill and chemistry on the field it's crazy to watch adel boulbina is like a young messi or something, his goal was insane! Algeria definitely deserves to be favored to take down nigeria in the quarters. Congo's loss is tough to see but they'll bounce back for sure 🤕 congrats to algeria on making it to the next round, they've got this tournament in the bag 💪

I'm not buying it 😒. 22-year-old Adel Boulbina scoring a winner in extra time with zero explanation on how he even got there? 🤔 It's like the reporter just phoned it in without any real insight into the game. And what's up with all these one-word descriptions of the players' moves? "Beat" this and "unleash"... sounds like a Wikipedia article 😂. Give me some actual analysis or stats, please! 📊
