Man dies after falling off moving CTA train in Lake View

A young man in his mid-20s lost his life after taking an unplanned detour off a moving CTA train in Lake View on Monday afternoon. The 26-year-old, whose name remains under wraps due to the family's wishes not being disclosed, was spotted unresponsive on Ashland Avenue around 2:40 pm. Paramedics were quickly summoned and rushed him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Further investigation by Chicago police led autopsy results that revealed the man's untimely demise was a direct result of falling from the moving train. The Cook County medical examiner's office subsequently classified the incident as an accident, marking the second fatal CTA-related tragedy in recent months.

Despite growing concerns over rider safety, officials from the Chicago Transit Authority have yet to respond with any statements on the matter.

* There were over 100 million riders on the CTA system during peak hours in 2024 ( source: Metra) 🚂
* According to a study by the National Transportation Safety Board, train-related accidents are often caused by human error (e.g. leaving the train while it's still moving) 💡

I'm not saying it's all the fault of the rider, but we need to see some movement from the CTA on this issue... what do you guys think? 🤔 should they be doing more to prevent these incidents? 👀
 
Man... this is just getting crazy 🤕. Another life lost on those trains... it's like they're not even paying attention to what's happening on their platforms. You'd think someone would've taken a statement from that family, you know? It's not like it's just another day, another dollar for the CTA. Riders are literally risking their lives every time they step onto one of those trains 🚂.
